- the artist seems to believe that they are too good for straight lines

This is a good example of an artist that has interestingly unoriginal ideas and executes them with the artistic abilities of a 'talented' high school student.

And by that I mean:

- the composition is terrible

- the lighting is impossibly boring/lacking in contrast, flat, and dull

- the colors are depressingly uninspired

-=-=-==-=-=-=--=-=

- the artist didn't use photoshop and claim it was mspaint

Just looking through some of Magritte's stuff there, familier with quite a few of those and Ive got to say I hate evry single one of them and Im not sure why I do.

OK youre being abstract, we GET it!

It's all really well painted and I mean its GOOD, but I just fucking hate it, you know?

---------------

I'm not a fan of his, though I do like this one as I mentioned below. But yea, I hear what you're saying. I really like how he takes common objects, paints them, and scrawls "This is not a ..." whatever it is across the canvass. That takes quite a bit of work, and the more he does it, the more interesting it becomes.

"This is not a pipe."
"This is not an apple."
"This is not a cumquat."
"This is not a flaccid penis."

Right.

What I would like to see is a Magritte painting with the words "This is not a good painting," scrawled across it. Fuck being abstract, let's just be honest.

That's "The Son of Man," Johnny. It's interesting how well known that painting is, when "The Great War on Facades" is pretty much the same thing with a woman, but few people have ever heard of it.

Rene and georgette magritte
With their dog after the war
Were strolling down christopher street
When they stopped in a men's store
With all of the mannequins dressed in the style
That brought tears to their immigrant eyes
Just like the penguins, the moonglows
The orioles, and the five satins
The easy stream of laughter
Flowing through the air
Rene and georgette magritte
With their dog apres la guerre

It's one of those paintings that makes you stare at every inch for several minutes, and you still don't know whether you like it or hate it. I like that about it.
