Yes, finally, it's here.
SUPA. The Second Ubersite Poetry extrAvaganza. THE world leader in poetic entertainment. The biggun.
If you're here it means one of three things: 1) you were fool enough to sign up for this, and may God have mercy on your soul, 2) you wish to bear witness to the spectacle that is SUPA, and may God have mercy on your soul, or 3) I've recently given you some disease. Whatever your motivation, I can promise you that there will be much itching, burning and regret in your future. But never you mind that just yet.
I know some of you would like to jump down to the bottom, check your opponent and run off to write, but there are some details that must be provided first so that we're all on the same page.

The particulars (the Nazi bits):
The bracket provided below will be used for the duration of this festivus, with winners advancing and pairing up with the winner of the match below them. For the second round only, as there will be an odd number of winners on either side from Round 1, the highest rated loser will advance and round out the field. Eventually it'll all whittle itself down to two people, and if it's two women like it was for FUPA then I'll cite the "lez out" clause that I failed to reference last year. And there will be much rejoicing.

Each round will last a week, with the matchup hubs posted on Thursdays and entries due the following Tuesdays.

There aren't many rules, but there are a few:
- Your entry must be your own.
- Your entry must be original. Short of posting something you've already posted before there's no real way for any of us to know if what you've written was done this week or a year ago, but I'd like to think there's some honor among e-thieves here.
- Audio or video presentations are not allowed. The playing field should be even here, so text is the name of the game. If you want to include an image at the end, great, but I'd like to avoid a situation where anyone has a technical advantage over someone else.
- I can't very well prevent you from doing this but I'll mention it anyway because it's my dime and my soapbox: I'd prefer it if the submissions were uber reference-free. Namedropping is a cheap and easy way to guarantee that your post'll get more attention than your competitors. And do recall, this is a serious writers' forum. It say so somewhere, I think. Maybe not. Maybe it's a lie that Razor came up with.

Beyond that, have at it. Write what you're inspired to write and feel free to use whatever form you feel comfortable using. Like last year, given that poetry is pretty particular to its author there will be no exchange of titles or assigned titles for pairs to use. Previously there was a certain theme for every round, but I'm going to throw that out the window and see if there's beauty to be found in the chaos. Hope, death, love, regeneration...choose your color, pick your brush and paint with them. Hell, write a murder mystery poem if you want. If this open format proves troublesome to the majority it can be adjusted in later rounds. Oh and if you're really new to this and need some direction, I'll be happy to suggest some topics or provide links to some resources that might help you out.
There's every chance I've forgotten to mention something, so if you have any questions please just up and ask them below. I hope y'all have fun with this. Dig it.

I wonder how difficult it would be for a contest moderator to have control over what ratings are actually counted. On the website I mean. Let's face it, the thought of going through 14-something posts and working out corrected ratings by hand doesn't much appeal to anyone.

Foolproof, you could write the epic poem of the century and still lose. People here don't rate the post, they rate the poster. The shineboxes, the 8-tracks, the Zebras, Wildman, etc. make it impossible. That's why I would like to see more monitoring. It won't happen, so my only option is to refuse to participate in any future contests.

I meant write something in the chance that someone drops out, so that if that happens you can slide into his/her slot and post it against their opponent's piece. All I meant by working on one is so that your cheese isn't left out in the wind if, say, someone drops out on Monday night and you'd be left with only a day to put something together. This way you're prepared, as you'll have no more or less time than anyone else who's currently in the comp.

I've only got 1 and 2, but generally my boyfriend picks anything up I might want, since he is a regular, so he probably already got it for me by now.
He suprised me the other day with every individual walking dead issue he could find, since I'd been bitching about how the trade paperbacks never have the cover art.
On SUPA: I could post something, but then if there are multiple drop outs how would it be decided who mine would be against? I could see that becoming unfair for the people who signed up originally and then had their opponent forfeit. Not that mine would be all that great mind you, but you see where I'm going.

Good thing my aunt is in remission. Whew! For a second there I was worried. Yes I do remember that, but it was unrelated to competition. And I was having my monthly anwyay, that day. If I remember correctly it was O'tron's Colostomy Bag Carla poem.
In all honesty though, do you really expect me to advance past the first round? I thought I'd just take a stab at something seeing how I have no chance anyway. The bracket was done at random, save for one step - the users who placed 1-4 in last year's comp were set aside and placed at their own corner. After that, four names were drawn at a time to fill out bracket spots. So if you don't like who you got, blame my hat, my fingers and chance.
