I never believed in unicorns now I wish I had.

In the early months of December I was born. Bloody and messy I was bought forth , the eldest child of a child. Really I could argue heartily that I had no chance but to be cynical, warped and generally hateful of the world that spawned me. An elder cousin dispelled all thoughts of Father Christmas, the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy at a tender age. I find that a good many of the people I know and socialize with have a similar cynical slant to their thoughts and feelings and while I can't speak for others I know that in myself it this sarcastic and snide face presented to the world is a mostly enjoyable state to be in. However I do ask myself occasionally does the optimist still exist?

An adulthood filled with the chemical meanderings of Zoloft and marijuana, make my brain fuzzy and illogic, however in moments of clarity I remember through the eyes of my own children those rare moments of innocence and I start to believe deep within myself that the most important thing that we as a generation could do is to preserve the innocence of the one after us. Greenhouse gasses and atomic bombs are intent on destroying the planet, while polar shifts and Armageddon promise an end to mankind as we know it. If this is indeed the true direction that the world is taking the generations after us will have to live in a ruined earth and clean up the mess made by generations before us, yes I will blame you, baby boomers. Surely we as the future parents, well some of us parents and even those who choose not to have children, the uncles and aunties and even the unkind strangers on the street, surely it is our responsibility to instil a deep sense of optimism and hope into the children of the future, in the hopes that they can fix the mistakes that others have deigned to make and live in a world where people are bad, the earth is not your friend and hate is rewarded.

These may be the alcoholic late night meanderings of a mad woman.
