I never believed in unicorns now I wish I had.
In the early months of December I was born. Bloody and messy I was bought forth , the eldest child of a child. Really I could argue heartily that I had no chance but to be cynical, warped and generally hateful of the world that spawned me. An elder cousin dispelled all thoughts of Father Christmas, the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy at a tender age. I find that a good many of the people I know and socialize with have a similar cynical slant to their thoughts and feelings and while I can't speak for others I know that in myself it this sarcastic and snide face presented to the world is a mostly enjoyable state to be in. However I do ask myself occasionally does the optimist still exist?
An adulthood filled with the chemical meanderings of Zoloft and marijuana, make my brain fuzzy and illogic, however in moments of clarity I remember through the eyes of my own children those rare moments of innocence and I start to believe deep within myself that the most important thing that we as a generation could do is to preserve the innocence of the one after us. Greenhouse gasses and atomic bombs are intent on destroying the planet, while polar shifts and Armageddon promise an end to mankind as we know it. If this is indeed the true direction that the world is taking the generations after us will have to live in a ruined earth and clean up the mess made by generations before us, yes I will blame you, baby boomers. Surely we as the future parents, well some of us parents and even those who choose not to have children, the uncles and aunties and even the unkind strangers on the street, surely it is our responsibility to instil a deep sense of optimism and hope into the children of the future, in the hopes that they can fix the mistakes that others have deigned to make and live in a world where people are bad, the earth is not your friend and hate is rewarded.
These may be the alcoholic late night meanderings of a mad woman.

Well I readily admit to being hypocritical and apathetic, things that are affesting the world today are, in my opinion much to hard to fix. However I do know how easy it could be to make my children happy. There was no real point to this post, more an observation on how unhappy every-one seems to be now. More and more people take anti-depressants and more people self medicate with other illegal medication, I just think that for the children that come after us, who are the ones who will be charged with the task of fixing the world, these children will need a sense of happiness in themselves to be able to fulfill the task that is going to be expected of them. Oh and the reason that they will have to save the world is just through the luck of being born after the year 2000.

"If this is indeed the true direction that the world is taking the generations after us will have to live in a ruined earth and clean up the mess made by generations before us, yes I will blame you, baby boomers."
She then goes on to say:
"Hahaha I'm not trying to save the planet I am to apathetic for that, I do think though that for babies growing up now that being really happpy within themselves is a very important thing with the world like it is."
So what I take from that, is that the author believes we should instill happiness and optimism in our children (through what means or on what basis is not even addressed), but not instill in them a sense of responsibility to their environment out of respect for the generations that come after THEM. Because mom hates that the baby boomers ruined the earth, but MOM is apathetic to the environment. Except if its ruined for her children.
So mom is a hypocrite- not because I say so, but because it's clearly stated in her self-ccontradiction above.
What the fuck? Seriously. What. the. fuck.
---
I guess it is all a matter of perspective my dear Sacrilicious.
I don't take those two statements to be hypocritical - I agree that blaming the Baby boomers is silly but acknowledging that she is too apathetic to save the planet is just an honest response to your criticism. This world is complex and her answer doesn't invalidate her observations of the world.
Her notion that it is important for babies to grow up being happy within themselves is incredibly important - and shows a level of interest in the development of the child that is not especially common these days. Looking around the world today it is easy to become overwhelmed with all the suck, and equally easy to feel hopeless to change it on any sort of massive scale. I just find nothing wrong with stating it. More people should.
I agree that plans are needed and simply complaining about things is pointless - but if we harvest these specific complaints that >EVERYONE < has about society... I don't know... somehow - perhaps we can affect a new kind of proactive change this crazy world - because what is being done now is not enough.
I think you agree with that.
The voice of the silent majority needs to be heard. We have inexplicably put ourselves on mute and that doesn't do us any good at all.
REVOLUTION! WOO! (http://www.ubersite.com/m/100546)

wtf is a "chemical meandering?"
it's not a typo, that's for sure.
---
I thought it was quite poetic, really. I can only imagine with the staggering amount of prescription medication being ingested by the masses to 'cope' with how fucking miserable this world can be - the resulting chemical haze would lead the more creative minds to wander. Due to the relative nature of the drug (I've never tried it, so this is pure conjecture) I can appreciate that it would be a subdued directionless wandering - more of a 'meander' with no real purpose but always in motion.
But hey - that's just me.
And why on earth would you care about providing heat?

sure... all you need are an 's' an 'a' and an 'l' and this:
An adulthood filled with the chemical meanderings of Zoloft and marijuana, make my brain fuzzy and illogic,
becomes:
An adulthood filled with the chemical meanderings of Zoloft and marijuana, make(s) my brain fuzzy and illogic(al),
Which in my estimation is a pretty kick ass sentence.

I want to know why you (hi m!) had such a negative reaction.
I read the same words and found this post to be quite well written - so I'm curious as to what >specifically< you didn't like about it.
Perhaps I am just missing something - and "I just didn't like it" will be a fine enough answer if that is all you can come up with, I will drop the inquiry as my intensions are not to put you on the spot, just try and understand how personal introspection recieved such a negative response.
I understand Bubba's reaction. Same with 'Lish. Yours? I'm not too sure on.

The early months of December?
I should have stopped there, but no. No, I didn't.
The environmental issue is an important one. But I'm not sure someone with a fuzzy and "illogic" brain who would blame only the baby boomers (many, many of the younger generations are also entirely apathetic toward the environment) is the best candidate for delivering the message. You didn't share any ideas on what or when or how, either.
It's going to take more than a generalized suggestion toward optimism to save the planet. Or even this post.
---
I do, however, agree with this sentiment.
Still, including suggestions as to how to fix the world is walking the sure path to marginalization. Personally I am encouraged that more and more people are at least willing to talk about how messed up this world is - even if it is on an obscure degenerate website.
It still makes me happy. I'm inlined to think that these people are more inclined to help find a solution now that their previous state of blissful ignorance is no longer an option.
I don't know... are you?

Only fault I find is that we are ALL to blame for the failings of humanity. 'Baby boomers' are little more than a conveniently labeled demographic - we ALL suck.

We baby boomers, at least, know when to use commas. Maybe I should blame my parents' generation for WWII. Perhaps my grandparents' for WWI. Hell, why not my great-grandparents for the Civil War?
My generation had Vietnam but, although I was there, it was not my fault. If you are attempting to represent the current generation, you have made them all appear to be uneducated fools. Are you happy now?
