33 Students are dead and an estimated 26 wounded at Virginia Tech. Some piece of shit had a couple guns and shot two kids in a dorm then walked over to campus and, two hours later, shot up classrooms on the second story of a building. He then turned the gun on himself, making the largest school massacre to date in this country and the largest shooting massacre remembered in modern history.
Police said they found his backpack contained a receipt for the Glock 9mm he used in the shootings. A 22mm was also found. Somone sold this kid this gun. The shooter was identified as Cho Seung-Hui, 23, a senior.
News of this shooting sent shockwaves throughout the rest of the world. I imagine they're asking "what the FUCK is wrong with those Americans??"

Now I know what you're probably saying to yourself. "The gunman wasn't a US citizen". I got that too. He was an exchange student from South Korea who was an English major and was in his senior year.
I don't give a fuck who's pulling the trigger. I give a fuck who's selling these guns to them. Now you're going to have the campus security involved in a blame game (and maybe they should, it was two hours between the killings at the dorm and the killings at the education building). Is anyone going to point to the gun companies? Or the retail places that are selling weapons to alien citizens who are 23 years old? It may happen but it'll all be drowned out in the fuzz caused by asking college security why it took so long to react.
I've been looking but as of yet am unsuccessful in finding a statistic that shows how many home invaders were shot in 2006. The 9mm and the 22mm are both said to be home defense weapons. How many burglars were shot and killed or wounded with these weapons last year? I don't know but I bet it doesn't come near close to the number of accidental or violent deaths used by these weapons.
So what's the answer now? Make sure EVERY kid in college has a gun? Are the gun lobbyists going to make sure their children are armed to the teeth when they go to college? Or high school? Maybe church too.
It's a frightening world these kids have to deal with. Get the guns out of the hands of children.
I'm ashamed.

I don't know how many burglars were shot or killed but I know that Robbers fear armed homeowners more than the police. I know that is why 13% of all burglaries in the US occur when nobody is home as opposed to 53% in the UK.
So, what you're saying is that burglaries when noone is home (53%, as you said) occur more often compared to burglaries when someone ís home in the UK than in the US? Either you're explaining it wrong, or you're contradicting yourself, there. I take it the UK home owners are léss likely to own a gun, and burglars being scared would break in more when there is nobody home?

No reasonable person would argue that people should all carry guns, but there are at least two cases I know of where people with concealed weapon permits stopped people going on shooting rampages in schools.
In 2002 two students stopped a school shooter at Appalachain Law School (they were breaking school rules, in soem states they would have been breaking the law by having a gun in their car on school).
In 1997 at Mississippi's Pearl High School the Assistant principle stopped a student in the middle of a shooting spree.
Now that really isn't possible because most schools in a poorly thought out race to overprotect kids they don't allow guns by anyone but police. I am not arguing students who live in dorms should be alowed to have them there, but if you live off campus, and have a permit the school shouldn't try and stop you from having a gun.

Anywhere in the US where handguns have been banned gun violence has increased when compared witht he national average.

keep in mind the area and population if the usa
if you want to compare the uk with the usa, then compare it with say a state like georgia
if you wantto compare somehing comparable then compare the usa to the rest of europe, its more of an equal comparison.
not all of the us is fucked, jsut consider that if it takes 1 in 100,000 to do something like this then it is more likely to happen where there are more people to help the stats

Why? Because time this happens, people jump on their soapboxes and try to pin the responsibility on everything under the sun except the culprit. We tell people that the world is to blame for all their misplaced rage and aggression, then act surprised when they grab a gun and shoot their world up.
Yeah, take their guns away. That'll solve the problem. History has proven that there's nothing ELSE humans could use to maim each other with.
