In light of recent events on various national and global scale, here's one from the vaults. Wrote this poem back in '97 during my later undergrad days at university. Several years later, I set it to song, arranging some music for it with my then-band and we recorded it in the home studio.
I've included the audio file for those who are curious about the music, but per contest guidelines, ratings are requested and expected strictly for the text, and not for the recording (which isn't my best vocal effort anyway, but then I was about eight years younger at the time).

Just fourteen dollars buys you life
Cries the man in tattered rags on Fourth and Main
He saw the fire pour from the sky
Knew not of whom to ask or why
Never been subjected to such pain
Can't understand why no one stops to claim his offer
The Truth revealed, they know to pass him by
Initial opportunities were blown
And now they suffer
Just one more chance to try and make things right
This is the Armageddon...
Faded shadows haunt the town
Whose churches all came crashing down
In one fell swoop of wind and flame
Congregrations slaves to sin can't bear to say that He must win
Realizing too late their guilt and shame

Cry out the masses

Does anyone STILL want to contest that the striped alter below is mine?!?
I was of the impression reading the rules that any original piece not already posted on Uber was okay to use, regardless of age. That's just how I read it.
Regarding the audio - fair enough. I'll repost.

I liked this, but you should have written something new for the contest.
You violated the spirit, in my opinion. So few rules, too.
Posting the audio while telling us to ignore it is a negative for me, also.
If I have a change of heart, I'll pump you up.
You know I can do it.
