And when you've 'beaten' the game (or 'finally completed doing what it told you to do') all you've really done is thrown away several hours or days of your life. If you want to feel good about it, I guess that's fine, but I'd advise you not to put 'beat Soul Calibur III in Expert Mode (or whatever) in 42 hours' on your resume or college applications. It might impress the 27-year-old assistant night manager at Taco Pit, though, since it took him 42 hours too."

I've been playing Bass for 7 years and been playing guitar for 3. I consider music a very big portion of my life. Just because i play instruments too doesn't mean i can't enjoy a video game with some friends. I didn't realize i was going to get scrutinized for mentioning that i play a video game. Chill out.

Did Joe Satriani teach you how to play Guitar Hero II? COOL! No, he didn't did he. No. That's 'cos Joe Satriani can actually play guitar and has no need for stupid imitation video games. Put the controller and the game player in a box, go to the pawn shop, trade it for a decent acoustic guitar, and play around with that on your back porch. Create something rather than trying to feel a sense of achievement from finally making an exact copy of someone else's stuff. Back porch for a while, then front porch for a while and soon you'll be playing with other people who left the imitations behind. And then you'll find that you're not as much of a pathetic loser anymore. Girls like actual musicians, but generally aren't too impressed with the ability to play a video game. If you can play guitar for real, it might even turn out that girls will talk to you. You never know.
