I was at the gym taking in FOX news while I trying in vain to exercise off some of that calzone I've been shoving in my face (with eggplant and pepperoni? I understand that only God is worthy of such a food), watching and smirking at the "Fred Thompson Watch" special feature. I'm pretty bored of the whole Fred Thompson thing, because I can't stand the whole boring "Well I may run, I may not run" coy little game these assholes play in the run up to declaring themselves. Then I remembered that we're still 18 months from the election and it made a bit more sense to me.
George Bush aside, politics aside (in a political post, no less), you can forget about a democratic president in 2008. Forget it. I know, I know, Obama...Hillary, yes yes yes, very nice. Forget it. It's not going to happen. I called the last election (winning a cool $20 from the honorable Jimbo) and I'm calling this one now, at least for the Republican party. Now, I know what you'er thinking - who is this jagoff to just drop his totally unsupported opinion on our heads like this? Well you're right, but I never form an opinion without knowing 100% exactly what I'm talking about. Just ask ETS.
You have two democratic front runners that are total anathema to huge parts of their very own base.
We'll start with Hillary. Women don't like her and men definitely don't like her. Now, right about now, you have a lot of male eunuchs going "What are you talking about? I love Hillary and I'm not so insecure that I couldn't have a female president!" With all respect, bull-craaahaaaahaaahaaap. Men in this country may be in the unfortunate position of having to pretend 70% of the time like they don't have a set of genitals, but rest assured ladies and internationals, we do. We take them out at night and stroke them, listening for the footfalls of the uninvited, while muttering "No way I'm voting for that BITCH."
Now a lot of people instinctively think that women are going to vote for Hillary simply because she is rumored to also have a vagina (these reports are sketchy and come from unconfirmed sources). We will accept, for the moment, that she is a bearer of the XX chromosomal pair. Women are different than men, folks. They are different in that, deep down inside, they do not like each other. There is nothing, nothing on earth more hated on a deep and interpersonal level than an alpha female. Men have the capacity to respect a man who is more powerful and assertive, and will follow and bolster that person. Women, on the other hand, will point to the window display of Nordstrom's and then bury a sharpened nailfile in the other woman's kidney when she turns around to look. There is a reason, a very clear and definable reason, why men rule the world. Men work together. Women work together....to kill other women they don't like.
Right now of course some unoriginal bastard is pointing to all the wars that "men" are waging all over the world. This is just the chaos of too many people being allowed to interact, rather than a remark on gender. Try traffic sometimes - gender is meaningless. Men hate Hillary, women hate Hillary. Should she win the nomination, she would lose the election to a bottle of A1 steak sauce. People would enter the voting booth and go "You know, I prefer the thick and hearty, but the regular is pretty good too" and mark the ballot for A1.
Now we get to our second good friend, Barrack Obama. This has the whiteys all atwitter, because they love the idea that they can vote for a black man and prove to everyone, finally, that they are not racist. "I voted for a black guy, that must mean I'm not a racist, even though I think that his kind are so stupid they can't get into a college unless we lower the standards for them." So he definitely has the guilty white vote in his favor. Where he loses is.....dun dun duuuuuunnnn! The black vote.
Ooooohooooooooooo! Nobody likes that assessment, I'm sure. He's black, right? If candidate black, candidate get black vote. Black man no support cracker, he vote for brother, right? WRONG, punk. You see, the majority of the black population has it really tough. They're getting snagged left and right by cops. They get beaten. They get called "nappy headed hos" without any provocation. They are relegated to music and sports as an afterthought. They do not consider a guy who is half-white black. PERIOD. Think black guys will vote Obama just because he's black? Why haven't Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton glued themselves to this guy? He's black, right? Uh, wrong, at least as far as they're concerned. If a black man gets rich in any manner other than entertainment or sports, he ceases to become black. Clarence Thomas? Not black. Colin Powell? Not black. Condoleeza Rice? Actually has racial epithets hurled at her. She's not black, not by their standards. They won't say it out loud, but they feel a similar disconnect with Obama. A handful of guilty white people is not going to get Beneatha and the rest of her clan to the register to vote, sorry. Get lost.
John Edwards is never going to be president. Ever. The last guy with hair that good was Kennedy. You saw what happened to him. Presidents have had bad hair ever since.
Now that we've gone through the opposition candidates, let's go through their policy positions. Forget healthcare this and that. Nobody is getting elected on those platforms. If they could, it would have happened already. There are two positions that people give a damn about, and that's it. Some people are thinking "Iraq". Wrong wrong wrong wrong. The troops are home before November, period. There is no way that the war goes on beyond that. The Republicans are not going to risk getting reamed at the polls in 2008. Bush is going to get pressured to begin a drawdown or risk having his war authorization revoked with a veto-proof majority. This will make Iraq Vietnam, and that can't happen. Mark my words, guys will start coming home in June of next year.
So if Iraq isn't the issue, what is? The first is terrorism. Or rather, fighting terrorism. Let's be clear about this - NOBODY TRUSTS DEMOCRATS TO FIGHT TERROR. Right now, some Obama guy is just flailing in anger at reading that. Sorry guys, it's true. No one believes Democrats will fight terror. Period. Now the unoriginal bastards are once again whining "Well if you look at Iraq, the Republicans aren't that good at it anyway." Perhaps so, but people attach more weight to bullets than conferences. Nixon is more known for pulling out of Vietnam than for touching down in China. Even if Iraq is mostly over, Afghanistan remains, as does the threat of Iran. Most people do not want Iran snuggled. They want it blown up. They will elect a president willing to do so (note I said "willing", not "determined").
The second issue is taxes. Both candidates have made it clear they will raise taxes. They've tried to mitigate it by saying it will be only on this or that income bracket. Nobody hears or understands that. They hear "tax increase". The last guy to do that before an election was Walter Mondale. You know where he is now? Neither do I.
Couple all this with the GOP debate - there was a word being bandied about in that debate that was NOT used in the democratic debate, not about Obama, and not about Hillary (and certainly not Edwards). That word is "presidential".
Now, there's a lot of assholes out there who are just mad after reading this, just mad. I never said "Republicans are great, democrats suck", I never indicated a party affiliation, and I never endorsed a candidate. I simply laid out the facts as I see them, coupled with the opinions I drew from them. But you're mad at me and reaching for that -2 anyway, probably. Sorry about that, wish I could cheer you up some. I realize this is a sorry crop of candidates on both sides. What do you want me to do about it? Maybe I could be like ETS and not pay my income taxes.
Oh you mean I make so much money that the government might notice, as opposed to his paltry $125? Oops. Never mind.

Well first of all, no one, regardless of their political leaning can actually fight terror. Having a war on terrorism is like having a war on boredom or something... i mean i guess you can try, but it's fucking stupid and unwinnable. We will never wipe terrorists out. EXACTLY. that's why i stopped going to meetings. you are 100% correct. unless people will be asking me questions directly at a meeting for knowledge that only i have, i don't go to them no matter how many times the boss asks me to. i can get a lot of work done in the time the rest of the idiots are in the meeting.

I, unfortunately, am stuck in meetings because I work for a huge electrical contractor and if I don't meet with structurals, architects, and other contractors, you get a frigging building fit for an Amish king with no electricity, no A/C, and no lighting.

i admit that too many women in a business meeting will make it draaaaaaaaaaaag forever. my gf only has female employees. she had to use middle school teacher tricks to keep order and discipline in their meetings.
i've worked with and for a lot of women. most were rational at age but passed age 40. on the other hand, young chicks seem to have a better work ethic (not competence :-P) than young men.

The +2 is for an interesting article, but not one that I would agree with.
First of all saying that you called the last election is no big deal. I can say that the sun will rise tomorrow and it would amount to the same thing. However that is not what I disagree with. I think that the people of the US will be too scared to vote for anyone besides a dem. I really find it hard to believe that anyone would vote for a rep after president bush. I am not saying that they will never recover, I am saying that they will not recover by this next election. I think that it will amount to people wanting to shove it in the rep's faces. That being said I that both the dems and the reps should hibernate or something for a few years and let someone else run the country. Hillary and Obama are just linemen who are blocking for their ball carrier. They're involved because the DNC knows that a woman and a black man running for president will drive the Rush Limbaughs nuts, and will attract all of their bile, while the golden boys get past the primaries relatively unscathed by the conservative press and radio shows.
The rest are just chaff.

Alot of this I agree with, but I still must say that come November both parties are going to put up shit canidates.
Democrats:
Hilary - Has no business running period, her husband was the man, and she's trying to cash in.
Obama - I won't vote for him because I see a forthcoming parralell between him and Deval Patrick (MA Govenor, who made lots of promises, is black and young, and immediately started abusing the system)
Edwards - I hope his wife has contagious cancer and he gets it.
Sadly one of those three douchebags will get the nomination
and the top three for the elephants?
Mitt Romey - Just on his record in MA alone I can't vote for this guy. He'll give GW a run for "president most in bed with corporations" if elected.
McCain - Pretty sure he's a CIA doppelganger and Party lapdog. I'd vote for the original McCain we saw 8 years ago in a heartbeat.
Guliani - No thanks, I actually enjoy my personal freedoms.
