This is...weird.
Using a NASA developed fluid consisting of nano scale metallic spheroids in a carrier fluid that reacts to a magnetic field, these guys have created a piece of art that reacts to sound.
When a sound is made the magnetic field changes and therefore, so does the structure of the fluid.
Like I said...weird.

You can make it yourself with cheap chemicals.
The problem is getting a magnetic field strong enough to make the spikes look like that.

I saw a video about this on youtube. It's probably the coolest thing in the world right after the ship from Flight of the Navigator, which really isn't "of this world" and therefore doesn't even count.
