While flicking through my IPOD I realised that I have a lot of music that I can't tolerate when I am not in the depths of a crushing depression. As I have not really immersed myself in that level of melodrama for several years I have no idea why I keep most of this crap around.
Scourge wrote a post looking for songs that provoked some kind of feeling (http://www.ubersite.com/m/97599) which mostly turned into a soundtrack for bow chicka bow wow.
So here is a short list of some of those gut wrenching, tear jerking, sob provolking songs:
32 Flavors by Ani DiFranco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DsP2TheK0iQ
Not a Pretty Girl by Ani DiFranco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2GUCkTPqwE
Colorblind by Counting Crows http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0s7ycdUcHk
Green Eyes by Coldplay http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbAZiVRG6h0
Grace by Jeff Buckley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5YmuS5zNzk
Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vsa_xWLOghg
In your Eyes by Peter Gabriel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbc56pHADIA (Say Anything is one of
the best teen flicks ever, even if it creates these completely unrealistic expectations for young girls that men have to labor under for the rest of their lives)
The Woman's Work by Kate Bush http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQy5R9qQxiY
Ice Cream by Sarah McLachlan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7I5sixwOQlg
Silence by Sarah McLachlan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTZRYb34LdE
Pretty much anything by Sarah McLachlan was written for the express purpose to cry your eyes out.
So what is the soundtrack to your depression?
Uber is full of lovelorn computer geeks I'm sure you guys have some good ones.

I once made a cd when I was heavy into drugs and told my friends to play
it when I was dead.
It had this song on it.

TOTALLY NOT ME!!!
I don't bother with alters. I say what I need to, -2 when I need to.
But you're right on one count, I'm not 17 and emo.
I DO want to know who that is, though...

Tell it like it is.
Here is a clue. If the situation is "I CAN'T LISTEN TO THIS SHIT ANYMORE AS I AM NOT 17 AND EMO", then you remove the offending music from the iPod. It isn't difficult.

Noob?
I think the whole I CAN'T LISTEN TO THIS SHIT ANYMORE AS I AM NOT 17 AND EMO was lost on many of you.

Here's a link for Colonel Bagshot:

DJ Shadow sampled them for the song '6 Days', which is also very good.

The entire Pretty Hate Machine album.
I can't even listen to it anymore.
'I want You' by Third Eye Blind (yeah it's cheesy)
'#41' by Dave Matthews Band (more specifically Dave and Tim live at Luther College)
'In Your Eyes' by Peter Gabriel (good choice...that movie and song kick ass)
that's good hurting music right there.
Recovery, anger music?
Check out Snake River Conspiracy.

Hayden - Everything I Long For (entire album)
Morrissey - Viva Hate (entire album)
If all the whining on those two albums don't stop me from wallowing in the mire of self-pity, then it's time for some hate music: Rollins, Rage, Ice mutha fuckin T, Headstones....

E lucevan le stelle,
e olezzava la terra
stridea l'uscio dell'orto,
e un passo sfiorava la rena.
Entrava ella, fragrante,
mi cadea fra le braccia.
Oh! dolci baci, o languide carezze,
mentr'io fremente le belle forme discogliea dai veli!
Svani per sempre il sogno mio d'amore...
L'ora e fuggita e muoio disperato!
E non ho amato mai tanto la vita!
SYNOPSES
The painter Cavaradossi has been sentenced to death for helping to hide an escaped political prisoner. As he awaits his fate, he sings of the sweet memories of his beloved Tosca and his dashed dreams.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION
How the stars seemed to shimmer,
the sweet scents of the garden,
how the creaking gate whispered,
and a footstep skimmed over the sand,
how she then entered, so fragrant,
and then fell into my two arms!
Ah sweetest of kiss, languorous caresses,
while I stood trembling, searching her features
concealed by her mantle. My dreams of pure love,
forgotten forever! All of it's gone now!
I die hopeless, despairing, and never before
have I loved life like this!
