It never ceases to amaze me how people will put so much effort into arguing amongst each other over something with no resolution possible between them. You want to change something? You want your opinion to matter? Don't waste your time on the people that disagree with you. Get a whole bunch of people that do agree with you and go confront those fat, old, overpaid, corrupted, greedy, disgusting, bastards we call politicians. Tell them what you think of their arms dealer contracts and fat pockets.
The sheep that are Americans are so busy cursing out whoever their TV-god tells them to that they miss what's really going on. You mock Muslims for spending 3 hours in prayer each day, but at least they have discipline. Most of you spend more time than that each day filling your brain with someone elses opinions (without the option to argue, short of turning it off).
You scoff at smokers, laugh at overeaters, and torment anyone else with difficulties, problems, or addictions. Yet you can't pull yourself away from your own deep seated addiction to a box that displays moving images and projects sounds. Images and sounds created for one purpose - to deliver a message.
Those messages build up in your brain, like a repeatedly displayed advertisement. What do you think when you hear Cadillac Escalade? Exactly what Cadillac wants you to think. You disgust me. Robots, programmed by your idiot-box to think like a handful of powerful men want you to think, and programmed to buy want a variety of rich men want you to buy. Some of you even pay for lung damage.
Here's my point - are you discussing politics, war, oil, or any other subject about which you are completely ignorant of beyond what your precious TV has informed you of? Shut up, parrot. Your thoughts are not your own, you accomplish nothing but someone elses agenda. You're being played by your entertainment, and you'll deny it to your last breath because of how deeply ingrained your false sense of individuality lies.
Forget your TV, your programmer. What kind of person are you if you can't "survive" without some type of visual or aural stimulation pumping into your brain at all times? You're so weak. I'm no model of perfection, myself, but I've conquered the demons that hold you down. You don't have an opinion. You have programmed reaction. For most of you, the programmed response to this will be of the offended sort. How dare someone condemn you! TV is your choice! You CHOOSE it! Alcholics, smokers, and druggies are addicts, you CHOOSE your poison. How dare I imply such things!
If you're so smart, why are you so pathetic? Why are you sitting here, getting all in a hissy fit over the typings of some complete stranger? A few of you may even expend the effort to accost me with your vote of disapproval, coupled with some benign insults.
Look at yourself! Do something, for crying out loud! You're still alive, therefore you still have oppurtunity to better yourself, and that's how you can improve the world. Stop complaining about the problems around you that you have no chance of fixing, and look at all the things that need fixing on you. Your temper, your weight, your ego, your disrespectfulness, the list is endless. No, you can't fix it all, but do what you are able, or you will eventually be able to do nothing. Stand for something, or you will fall for anything. Honestly, how much do you think you can change if you can't even change yourself?

Erm, never mocked a muslim or fatties or smokers (being one). Spend approximately half an hour a day on the internet and only because it gives me something to do whilst eating my sandwiches. Smoke the tobacco I want to because I enjoy the taste of my brand, not because of any advertising since you aren't allowed to advertise tobacco products in England. Not sure about over your way. I buy the brands I like for everything else as I have tried and tested those prior to it and found them wanting.

I have thought about these things, read them, assesed the situation... I do agree with you on your basic premise though - the public at large is incredibly ill informed. After all, people who see Fahrenheit 911 think they are qualified to talk about the war in Iraq. People who have seen An Inconvenient Truth suddenly think they are experts on the environment. Or people who watch House and have access to WebMD thinking that they know what the fuck is wrong with them. Here is a normal conversation for me:
