I listen as you shuffle by my door. The jealously seeps underneath the frame, crawling up my bed and threatens to smother me.
It's a post-it note haunting. Little notes slipped under doors and incomplete to do lists.
I'm feeling the change in me. I can hear my heartbeat fill up a room when I'm alone and the echo no longer petrifies me. The hollow sound of you is background noise as my life begins to grow.
I took one of his cups out of the cupboard today. It was tiny and blue, small enough for his tiny grip. You bought them on the side of the road while I was picking out records. He wasn't even real and he had real things.
You've hidden yourself behind what he wasn't.
I saw him die and watched you become the ghost in his place. He never had a place but you made it so.
You used to brush yourself against me as we slept. Tiny touches of skin hinting underneath lace tickled my senses. When I feel those now, the warmth is gone from my fingertips. I don't want to reach out for what was once mine.
We had a party for him. People he wouldn't have liked crowded our house like people with shopping carts in a single aisle at the grocery store. Everyone wants the same thing, but no one wants to move. You spent hours planning for an empty vessel. But as you sank that ship, you were pulled down with it.
When did I stop being your lighthouse? I think the question should be: when did I stop trying to save you?
This is when I go. I step off and step away, down the path and out the door. Leave you to your shuffling feet and wounded head.
This is where I go. I'm finding myself able to breath without you, something I never though possible until you took your hand off my throat.
You are what I leave even when I know you've already left yourself.

It would be nice if the story were a bit less amibguous, did the boy die? Was it a faked pregnancy? Still a good read though.
