I may generally be a lurker, hiding in the shadows, afraid to post much because I know most of my stuff is crap. Hell, I know my own limitations, and no matter how much I would like to pretend, I know I probably never amount to anything writer-wise. But I thought it is time to post something, because there isn't anything being posted anymore. Back when I first started coming to this site I could log into the main and see a whole page of stories, comix, pictures, and bandwagons that I hadn't read, even if I had logged in not 5 hours prior. Now I can go at least 2 days, and MAYBE have a whole page of stuff to read.
Once upon a time, or at least a few months ago, one could log onto ubersite daily and see a plethora of posts on the main page. Sure, at least 4/5ths of them were total shite, but there was new stuuf on there nonetheless. When you logged on you would see Tom, Habeeb, buckeyesthegame(wasnt tom and buck the same person?), Santaclaus, PolyamorousAJ, MyNameIsTim, and all the rest. They would all have some sort of post that might have been a "Diamond amongst trash", to quote Emmit Smith.
Shlongy would -2 almost all posts(for a reason, most posts were crap) and have a witty retort for every person who posted crap. At least Shlongy is still here, doing his usual, and I at least have that to look forward to. I have even noticed that Shlongy seems to have mellowed out a little in his later years, he even occasionally gives a 0 or the rare +1 or +2 once in a while.
But now you log on and there is almost nothing on there, and most posts are of the no content variety. They are short, one or 2 sentence things, or a repost of old rehashed crap. Or some stupid cut and pasted crap from a crap magazine, which I unfortunately had to read today.
It seems that the only way to get people to post is to have an "ubercontest" of somesort where you may win a pair of used shoes. I know that we ALL could use a pair of used shoes, but that shouldn't be the only reason to post something new, DAMNIT! QUIT SAVING ALL THE GOOD STUFF FOR CONTESTS!!! Give me good stuff to read, and Shlongy some crap to have his way with!

I think it's ridiculous that people even post once a day, much less post something good every day. They have better things to do than entertain your sorry ass. At least I hope they do.

Bullshit. Ubersite has changed over the years sure but the fact is the general quality of the content has not gone up or down. In fact its more varied now that it has ever been. Still 60% shite, 30% meh and 10% pure gold though.

The site can only comfortably accommodate so many people at once. There's a natural cycle to everyone's involvement here, so it's inevitable that many of the people you once liked are now gone while there are a whole breed of new people who are good but unfamiliar to you.
It's hard to measure, but I think at any point in time there are roughly 100 or so people actively posting with about 500 people actively commenting. That's a lot of people to fit in one space, so some get offended, pissed, bored, or whatever and decide to leave. Others decide to come in.
I'm not sure at what point the site "filled up", but it's been full for a while. The fact that the place is always packed is simultaneously its best and worst quality.

More of a commenter than poster, because I prefer to read, then comment. I usually hope it is a good post I am reading, but if it is bad I look for the witty comments made by some of the more inventive people. It is almost all about the comments.
It seriously ticks me off when someone -2s something either because someone is a nOOb or they havent bothered to spend the time reading something, or they were -2ed by the guy who just posted, and are retaliating.
But who am I, and what can I do?

I guess looking back I've taken months off at a time too, but usually from posting. I've had a couple stretches where I went 6-7 months between posts, but I was still commenting once or twice a week. Maybe half the site is having one of those hiatus' all at the same time.

Because it's hard for just half a dozen people to keep coming up with new stuff.
It's simple really:
bart created uber, and a few others joined the site. Then bart created JMG, and gave his Razor account to Tom, to do with as he saw fit. Method came along and invented iddqd and pff. Loki was really Orgasmatron's creation, he just didn't get the confirmation e-mail for his Orgasmatron account until several years later. In the mean time, Jonukah invented Maltese, Urbane and JonnyX. He got sick of people telling his Maltese alter to STFU, and gave the account to Rad, who then used the Maltese account to hack Orgasmatron's Loki account. Stevie_says got bored of being put on B@W, so come up with the idea of Under_Oath_Meal. He fake left, but bret got his password and then used the bret persona to come up with URMY_Bitch, foster, and a whole bunch of others, in a bid to overtake Method in the highest number of alters competition, as stipulated in section 3.14, chapter 7 of the Uber Bible (which was written by Jewtoast, illustrations by Carol_Richards).

Obviously I see nothing wrong with posting for the sake of attention. Sure it's 'lame' - but a tremendous amount of 'fun' (There is that word again Filthy) for the people wasting their time here.
That is, after all, what this place is for me. A delightful waste of time.
Thing is, I don't really believe anytime enjoyed is truly wasted - I mean where else can your brain have this much freedom? Part social community, part narcissistic playground, part soap box, part gallery, and potential platform...
We are all doing our parts to establish the cult of our own individual personality around this site. Our words, socialization skills and imaginations define us.

I was going to make a post similiar to this, you beat me to it. And I agree, Uber has declinde sharply, or Jumped The Shark, but it still has potential to remain a solid site I frequent more than once or twice a month.
