It was an investigation to see if climate change has had an effect on the numbers and population make up of moths in the Loch Lomond area.
The answer was yes and a fairly substantial one.
The increasing temperature in the region means that there are now species breeding there that were normally only found further south.
Also the more specialised feeders had increased in number to a greater extent to the more generalised feeders which may indicate that its not only a longer breeding time (thanks to the increased temp) that has allowed them to increase but perhaps also an increase in the numbers and diversity of their food plants.

So the temp change has be high enough to increase the breeding period in the area, but it has not reached the temp area by which the population itself might migrate to cooler areas...because i know that in some moth species that the temperature needs to be in a certain range for proper egg development. Is sex determined by temperature during development as well? Could further increases in temperature lead to a change in breeding patterns of the moths aside from the period during which breeding takes place?

Its ridiculous that all this money is pumped into investigating large animals when insects are FAR more important than any stupid black and white bear.
I could quite easily have made a PhD project out of the data I had (35 years of data on 330 species of moth) but, thanks to the facrt my supervisor was a useless cunt who was no help at all, I couldnt convince him to help me turn that into reality.

Well fuck your adviser, there has to be funding out there. If you put in the effort, you should be able to find it, whether it be Gov't funding or from an NGO.
You tie it into global warming and the funding could flood in...i mean, you need to have something appealing for funding, especially for NGOs to fund it. Thats why they give more money to study brown bears then moths.
