Let me get this straight immediately - I did not write this.
My sister wrote it about me today (literature Masters) and I thought it was beautiful.
The perfect thing, you see, is that the people that know you best (or the people YOU know best) works well, because it is chock full of truth.

Forget-Me-Not
She kneels at her altar,
surrounded by weeds,
A mountain of orange dandelions
on a funeral pyre.
Her light brown hair
drawn tightly, exposing her soul.
Broken nails with unshaped cuticles etched
in earth, grey eyes flinch in the sunlight.
I look for the pathway
beneath the green sea,
blue swimming faces; perfect petals,
lie at your feet like jewelry.
Wiping moist black earth over her thighs,
She glides, beneath the burdened magnolia tree,
captures a bud, amongst overblown roses,
And offers her treasure with a child-like smile.
Taking my arm,
She leads me further,
down the hidden path, to a broken greenhouse,
Where her babies sleep - silently.
