Her tears streamed, her emotions screamed,
Because they put a horse to sleep.
Not a whimper or word from her is heard
For starving men who sleep on streets.
She said she tossed and turned and squirmed.
Perhaps she is an equestrian.
I wonder if she's the type of rider
Who fusses and cusses at pedestrians.
There are people who'll cry for Mr. Ed,
But won't give a poor man a slice of bread.
There are people who'll smile at My Little Pony,
But only give poor folks a mouthful of phony.
There are folks who loved Silver and liked the Lone Ranger,
But hate to give gold to a downtrodden stranger.
They'll kiss a Pegasus or white unicorns
Before they would let a man sleep in their barn.
Her tears dried after she cried,
Because they put a horse to death.
But when the poor or black have died,
I bet she does not miss a breath.

the message is good in intent but sloppy in follow through. tighten up your verses a little bit and work on your timing. try reading the poem out loud to yourself as you're writing to get a feel for the flow.

Puppies and kitties and ponys don't form gangs and armies and wipe out large numbers of each other on purpose. Humans do. That's why we're saddened by the death of an animal but not a human. Unless the animal is tasty or isn't cute, that is.
