It seems that all of the songs I've put up here have gathered a little attention, so I thought that I'd might as well put a little taste of what we can do live. This was recorded at some shitty little dive called The Branding Iron in a scenic little crack town in Linda, CA. Unfortunately, that's the best kind of show our band can get, considering that we're all still in high school, but what are you gonna do about it. Monologues aside, here's Evolution, with the bass too high, and the guitar too metalized.

Music=ok, the singer needs some years. (and that's handy to get experienced!)

Cool... the singing needs some work, but over all quite headbangtastic.

Definitely hearing the Incubus influence in this piece...although the guitar is a little too metallised for my personal tastes, it works well at the middle of the solo section. I think the bass level is fine, but then that is because I am a bassist most of the time. :)
The vocals need more depth and effects - try adding some medium plate reverb, a dual chorus, and high compression/limiting, if you have the rack unit processors for doing so live. As is they're just sort of "bleh."
For similar stylist influences, you might be interested in checking out Shade Tree.

Not really my kind of thing, but sounds pretty good guys. Your singer sounds like a eunuch though.

Thanks for all of the positive comments, its good to know that we don't horribly suck. To DeathJester, we are huge fans of Incubus, which is where alot of our style comes from. This song itself was the second song into the set, and I, the vocalist hadn't warmed up before the show like a tool. The vocals are usually a little more gravelly to fit with everything. We've been together for about a year and a half, and because of our age (we're all juniors in high school, so we range from 16 to 17), we have all been changing alot, as you can tell from the first song we posted, compared to this. Unfortunately, being juniors in highschool, all we can do for recording is done by ourselves because we're poor musicians. We're counting on breaking out into a motocross circuit tour, as long as all of the plans don't fall through. And the name Wissink is actually Black-Dutch, or at least thats what my grandmother says. The furthest we can trace it back is 4 generations, and it leads straight to the South, which is about all I know about my roots on my dad's side. Thanks for actually listening and confirming what I thought about it in the most part, and for all of the constructive criticizm, its nice to know that there are still some music fans out there.

i do agree that the bass is a little too high. however, it should be audible because nothing pisses me off more than a wasted bassist. unless you weren't going for the metal sound, i think the guitar is fine. as far as the drums go, a little more bass drum might help (though that might've just gotten mixed in with the bass guitar.) also, the snare is very articulate, which is good, but it's about the only thing heard out of the set in this particular mix, so i'd suggest bringing it down a tad. the vocals need to come up a bit. contrary to what you may think as a musician, most people are listening to vocals when they hear a song and not much else. if the rest of it's bad that will stand out, otherwise, it's largely ignored in an attempt to hear/understand the words. that being said, i would second the idea that the vocals sound like an afterthought. the style of singing was almost too melodic for the song; something a little rougher would fit better with the sound. as it is it sounds like it's kind of sitting "on top" of the rest of the song.
notice, however, that i didn't say anything about the music itself, just the mix. that would be because your music is actually quite good. nice job.
also, it was a very tight song. how long have you guys (and girls?) been playing together? is your studio work of the same caliber?
keep rocking man. if i'm ever in cali i'll look you guys up.

Nothing's Shocking came out almost 20 years ago, which is...well...shocking. To me, anyway, because it means I really am getting old. Best album since Abbey Road.
Now, Navarro's guitar work on that album is just fucking great, but what do we remember? Perry's weird voice and his fucked up lyrics. AND the way he presents those things. That is, with lovely melodies.
Still, nice work.
Just some advice from a fan of good music.
ps, Camera's got those images. Camera's got them all. Nothing's shocking.

I actually like the bass being high in the mix. Much better than being inaudible.

Vocals should be pushed up a wee bit or the rest a bit down or both to get it in better balance.
Do you have family over in The Netherlands? I knew a girl and the rest of her family too that was called Wissink. He was in the service, we met in Germany.
Carry on with that band thing, you rock!

I agree with lungfish, except I'm hopped up on espresso. The music is pretty tight and clear, particularly for a live show. The vocalist sounds like he could be good with some work, but his voice isn't strong enough for a piece like this, at least not here. Overall, it's a fine piece of music, and for a young band, I'd say it's worthy of a +2 kicker of all ass.

Reminds me heavily of early Incubus.
A good thing, in my opinion.

Honest opinion: Very good. I'm not thrilled by the vocals, but I think it's mostly a problem with the arrangement.
Really, the song doesn't seem to have been written with a vocal part in mind. It just seems like an afterthought. Make the melody/singer primary. You've got the rest of it down pat.
But I'm a bit drunk and you will of course ignore my advice if you so choose.
