It's hard to know what will happen if we succeed. It's even harder to know what steps need to be taken in order to do just that. I don't even know how this fight, this rebellion grew to such an operation of destruction. Destruction must be committed, in order to rebuild; in order to rebuild properly. The populace should not be oppressed and worked like dogs. The people, should not be dragged kicking and screaming to operating tables where mechanical devices are drilled into the brain. When the soldiers helmet goes on, spiked microbes pierce through the eyes and directly into the central nervous system. The soldiers, are no longer human. The Puppet Master must be stopped. There is a price on my head, they call me "The Renegade" as if I went insane and created some form of a violent cult. Propaganda that's being fed into the minds of the labor force. As if they are safe within the confines of the last major city. Safe from what? They are only safe from their own happiness. I hear gunfire...
The infection seemed only to cause purely fatal symptoms within humans. In the animal kingdom, those animals that did not die, the infection seemed to cause rapid evolution. Docile creatures grew massive and hostile, tusks protruding from their mouths. Predators grew even more dangerous. With fewer humans to inhibit reproduction, their numbers grew. Squirrels grew to the size of small dogs, their bites inciting a reaction much like rabies. Victims succumbed to a violent rage, a constant burning in the chest and a foaming at the mouth. Screaming out, a feeling like the eyes were about to burst from their sockets. Those bitten usually died within days. With limited medical professionals, ARM forces could do little to stop it. Huge wolves roamed in packs, so large that with one bite their iron like teeth could rip an arm off like a twig off a tree. In the earliest days of the resistance, it was not merely evading government troops. It was surviving.
Luckily, among the early resistance were military deserters. From generals to buck privates, all joined up arms against the Puppet Master. ARM was led to an old abandoned military base. The bunkers were for the most part ransacked and stripped of any useful items. However, the arms bunkers provided shelter from the wilds. They provided a base of operations, and in one forgotten, tucked away corner a stash of military MP6-14 semi automatic rifles. Even better was the abundance of 5.56x45 ammunition made universal to all military weapons more than ten years prior. Many of the resistance owned their own guns. Patrols to the surrounding cities broke into Dick's sporting goods stores and local gun shops in order to stock up on ammuntion. All of the small buisnesses abandoned with the infection. Quite quickly, ARM had created a fairly organized militia. All were eager to do what they could in an attempt to stop the Puppet Master.
Those with engineering backrounds built tunnels linking the entire system of 53 arms bunkers. Within a year the former military base had an underground city. With a hospital, a kitchen, bunks, everything that a populace would need to survive. It even had a firing range to train resistance fighters. Those unable to fight aided in the hospital or helped farm food. Farming had to be done under the trees to avoid detection from overhead flybys. Government aircraft were good at picking up human activity. Food had to be limited to that which would grow under minimal sunlight. A lot of leafy type vegetables. The wild boars made for an amazing source of protein. Now double the size and triple the population, they provided a reliable source of meat. In not too long a time, some of the bunkers were made into trades markets, toy makers giving out to children for a few hours of simple work. All of this with The Renegade to lead them.
It would be a long time yet before ARM could take on the government soldiers full force. Until the right time small acts of "terrorism" were played out on the Puppet Master. With the use of stolen military vehicles, laborers were smuggled out of the city. The discovery of a large sewer system provided another route of escape from the oppression. Resistance fighters placed along the way to aid in their leaving the city. All of them willing to help in any way possible. The hydroponics houses were destroyed, not before harvesting as much food as could be carried in the trucks. It was a short lived victory as the houses were soon rebuilt. However, these acts of destruction reminded the Puppet Master that ARM was still there. IED's were placed along the roads outside of the city. Tanks tracks were rarely affected by the blasts but occasionally one would get it's track broken. The IED's ripped through the ground troops. A few of the tanks were repairable, and were added to ARM's arsenal. We will be coming Puppet Master, and with veangeance...
