Not too many people would deny that attractive people have always had it a bit easier than everybody else. Numerous studies have proved this rather intuitive conclusion. For example, attractive kids are graded less harshly in school [1,2]. After prescreening, the attractive applicant gets the job more often than the unattractive applicant [3]. In mock trials, attractive defendants were found guilty less often and received lighter punishments than unattractive defendants [4]. This by no means constitutes all of the work done in this area, but you get the idea. I just hate when people say "many studies have shown..." and move on without mentioning at least a couple.
So, in short, attractive people can get by without working as hard since their looks tend to make up the difference. Indeed, since time is a scarce resource, it would be illogical for an attractive person to study more and know as much as his unattractive colleague. He wouldn't need it. It would be overkill and a waste of his time. In fact, additional study may prove detrimental if the additional knowledge is unable to offset the losses incurred by "letting himself go" (i.e. weight gain, skin blemishes, etc.).
Of course all of this applies only in the most general sense. Are there attractive people graduating at the top of their class? Of course, but it has been my limited experience that the more attractive someone is, the less useful, in a technical sense, they tend to be. For me, I'm never happier than when I'm put on a team with a bunch of other "less than attractive" people. The group photo's not much to look at, but we get shit done.
Am I way off base here? Anybody out there know a whole bunch of supermodel summa cum lauds?

I have some lovely attractive friends that are rather intelligent, and I've met dumbasses of every level of attractiveness. It's kind of hard to say really. I see where you are coming from because in the case of women I've had a few hot girlfriends that played dumb do get what they want but they were actually being kind of smart if you ask me. My best friend, who is gorgeous and smart, plays dumb all the time and charms the shit out of people. I don't really know where I'm going with this review.

Well I don't know. I was cute as a little kid. Ugly as a early teen, now handsome as a college age kid.
Basically looks do matter. People that are good looking have it good. But you can be "too" good looking where everyone just fucking hates you.
I'm a I guess "cute" (I fucking hate saying this shit) guy and I'm smart. So people assume I'm aroggant, cocky, asshole without even knowing me. It fucking sucks ass. So it's a double edge sword. I have to be very humble, nice, and bassically a bitch to make people like me at first. Or else i'm just seen as a cocky guy.
Being pretty and dumb could be easier. But fuck it. I want it all'

Except that that is not what I am saying, Caul. You are not listening to the opinion I'm expressing. You are taking the words that I'm typing, erasing a verb here and a noun there, and replacing them with whatever comes to mind for you. I would love to have an actual discussion and exchange of opinions and ideas with you, but you always end up throwing a fit and putting words into my mouth. So I won't bother.

You are handling "some users" perfectly. It is SO much easier to deal with them once you realize they are just trolling for a pointless scrap. Ignoring them works the best.

"assuming that people know less and are less competenent based on their looks = not superficial and full of sense"
only fugly people reason like that.

One day, Caul, I am confident that you'll be able to get over yourself long enough to have an actual discussion and exchange of ideas with someone without throwing out a petty schoolyard insult every 5 words. You've proven yourself to be relatively coherent (barring occasional issues due to the language barrier) and it's clear that you're not a complete idiot. So why is it that you're incapable of exchanging ideas and differences with a person without pulling punches?

lol, that guy you talk about seriously embarassed himself. you should've seen the look on my collegues' faces. i am nice to everyone i work with, i'm not stupid. he assumed i was an asshole cuz i dated some hot hr chick for a couple of weeks and these women, according to people like kaos king, only fall for snobbish stupid superficial assholes..yawn.
besides, that was just an example. for the record, i'm not taking this personally. i am simply disgusted that people make a simplistic reasoning that pretty = less knowledgeable.
you could make the same kind of arguments that ugly people know less based on other factors. for instance, the stigma that comes with ugliness can hinder education. that's just one out of a hundred.
my point is that there is more to one's knowledge than how one looks, you two-bit loser. but hey, keep making that little equation of yours so that when you look in the mirror, you can tell yourself "at least i'm working harder than that girl with pant size 0"

You don't know me and you never will, and the people who do know me don't feel the need to act the way you do. You're not going to pull me into one of your kindergarten playground pissing matches.
I still think you're misinterpreting what Jimmy is saying. Nevermind the fact that he has actual research that he cited, actual studies done that support his argument. Just because someone called you a snob, you think it's because you're attractive and they're jealous? It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the way that you treat people that you feel are less attractive than you, could it? Something which has been put on display multiple times on this post alone, not to mention your vast history on this site.

===
i find it really interesting that you're referring directly to me but adress me as "users" to take a litlte shot that i think of myself as "beautiful"
aren't you the pig that said somewhere that you had an "ass made out of perfect"? lol!
first of all, i think of myself as beautiful. though here and in my line of work, the people are so fucking ugly, it's hard not to feel that way.
i know jimmy is talking about being knowledgeable. i'm boiling it down to "pretty=dumb" because i find that the idea that pepole are knowledgeable based on their level of beauty is fucking retarded. there are so MANY factors that come into play when it comes to education and work performance that assuming that a person is not competent/knowledgeable because he/she is good looking is superficial, simplistic and reeks of jealousy.
i've seen that kind of "logic" happen in my work. especially with women. beautiful women that are more competent than any of their peers but that get treated like stupid secretaries who are only good at batting their eyes.
even personally, i once had an interview for a job which requirements fit me like a glove. they could've hardly find someone with my profile. but as soon as i enter the meeting room, an old fat fuck frowned and didn't even listen to half of what i said. almost foaming at the mouth, he told all kind of bs to the guy that sent me there, twisting my words and outright lying.
some nerd once lashed out at me in front of everybody at a work lunch that i was a snobbish asshole since i've started dating the hot bimbo that worked in HR and that i was trying to fuck my way up the ladder for being friendly with female collegues. it was embarassing to watch.
i deal with these people ALL day long. i know how they reason and the assumption that people who look better than them are not knowledgeable is nothing new, and in a working environment it qualifies as discrimination.

I find it really interesting that all of the users who think they're the "beautiful people" keep referencing "pretty=dumb". That's not what Jimmy is saying at all. He said very specifically that beautiful people have just as much capacity to learn and be intelligent, they just don't bother to in general as a rule. Because they are put on a pedestal by society for their looks, they don't have to work as hard to get the same things as the more average or unattractive human being. It's just like you mooks who say that fat girls have to have a personality because it's the only way people can keep themselves from vomiting every time they go out into public. The less attractive individual my work harder to be accepted by and excel in society because they don't have pretty going for them. Therefore, they must become more knowledgeable to beat out the competition.
I can say from personal experience that I will take more crap off a hot guy than I will of a non-hot guy. Hell, I dated a total and complete bastard for nearly 2 years based solely on the fact that he was pretty.
Pretty does not equal dumb. Pretty equals "WTF, I'm not reading all that!"

The post was interesting but also seriously dumb, the comments are worse. The ugly users have no idea what it is like to be attractive and seem to be actively encouraging the thought that attractive people are stupid, I would guess because they really have nothing else to make themselves feel good about being unnatractive.
Of course the truth is that this post highlights a stereotype and says have at it, but we all know that it's not really the way it works in the real world, there are plenty of attractive intelligent people and even more dumb ugly people.

kaos_king is also a proof that attractive people can be hurt by their own looks when it's time to be serious.
i heard about a study on radio, they said that being good-looking helps tremendously cuz people will tend to assign you good qualities. if you're TOO good-looking however, people automatically assume that you are dumb, unfaithful, snobbish, arrogant...etc
imagine you look better than most people, surely you'll get a lot of sore losers like kk who'll despise you.

you and people like kaos king make looks some kind of simplistic barometer of intelligence: pretty = dumb, which is seriously stupid.
__________________
Actually, that's not what I'm doing. I very specifically avoided using terms like smart, dumb, intelligent and stuck to knowledgable.
Smart and dumb are terms which speak to one's ability to learn. Knowledgable is concerned with what you know. For example, look at the ten year old with excellent grades. He's probably pretty smart (has the ability to learn), but he's not very knowledgable since he's only been around ten years.
I'm saying that it's been my experiance that pretty people don't know as much. That only relates to what they have already learned, not to their ability to learn.
They haven't learned as much because they can get similar results while knowing less.

well i'm by far the prettiest guy in my office (i work in IT, it's no great feat) and i know more technically than any of my collegues. :-Þ
not because i'm particularly smart but because i wasn't too socially awkward to use opportunities.
personally, the most successful, sane, educated and overall great peole i know happen to be good-looking. i don't know if taht's a coincidence but i know that for having worked with hundreds of fat nerds, ugliness does seem to affect someone's psyche over time.

you and people like kaos king make looks some kind of simplistic barometer of intelligence: pretty = dumb, which is seriously stupid.

Actually, that's not what I'm doing. I very specifically avoided using terms like smart, dumb, intelligent and stuck to knowledgable.

If a child is taught by word and deed he or she is good looking, and such attractiveness is a desirable trait, the natural inclination is to use that as a tool to achieve one's goals.
It's nurture more than nature, and education is key to proper development.
Just as larger, stronger children are likely to use their physical advantage without restraint unless they are taught otherwise, a good looking child needs to be taught to develop their intelligence regardless of physical appearance.
When one relies too heavily on a particular atribute, it's easy to neglect the development of others.
The 'dumb/beautiful' stereotype can become a self fulfilling prophecy when the attractive child's reliance on their looks combines with the lowered expectations of those around them.
For everyone who excels in spite of such circumstances, there are others who sink because of them.
_______________
Sounds good to me.

some people make the weirdest correlations.
the fact that attractive people get free passes is unrelated to their knowledge or skills.
_______________________
I disagree. If they're getting a free pass, why should they push themselves to know more or increase their skills?
If you can have a mediocre knowledge of the subject matter, take a test, and receive an excellent mark because you're so pretty, where's your motivation to attain a superior knowledge of the subject matter?

first, one's looks, especially when you're a kid in school change continually. the hottest girl i know was a fat fucking pig when she was 6. second, there are other factors that can build a kid's confidence or hurt it such as friends, his own IQ, initial grades, home education...etc
you and people like kaos king make looks some kind of simplistic barometer of intelligence: pretty = dumb, which is seriously stupid.
being superficial doesn't only mean loving pretty people. it means judging by looks only, which is what you're doing.
what i argue with kaos_king is that he shouldn't call women superificial bitches when tons of his posts consist of hot celebrities.

i heard about a study on radio, they said that being good-looking helps tremendously cuz people will tend to assign you good qualities. if you're TOO good-looking however, people automatically assume that you are dumb, unfaithful, snobbish, arrogant...etc
---------------
Good point. I suppose you can always have too much of a good thing. The optimum usually lies somewhere between the extremes.
imagine you look better than most people, surely you'll get a lot of sore losers like kk who'll despise you.
------------------
I suppose that's also true, but I'd bet for every kk, you'd have 20 guys/girls trying to buy you a drink.

kaos_king is also a proof that attractive people can be hurt by their own looks when it's time to be serious.

you could argue that ugly kids have learning disabilities due to a lack of confidence or being distracted, as we see so often in schools, by all the teasing.
since you conveniently provided no reference to your "additional study" that attractive people won't study because it equals to "letting themselves go", i will provide none to the well-known study that attractive people are far more successful than ugly people.
in a world where social skills and bullshit prones, ugliness - with all it entails - is likely to make you miss a lot of opporutinities and therefore...competence.
