Do you like Ron Paul? You should read the below link then, its very interesting and explains a lot about him that his internet groupies won't want you to know. Make sure to read some of the back links as well, you'll be saying "Fuck Ron Paul" in no time.

Holland had some messed up politics, but nothing like what we've got in the US, as far as lack of accountability, corruption, and all around waste. I can tell you one thing with absolute 100% certainty, and that is that the Dutch wouldn't have put up with the level of incompetence displayed during the Hurricane Katrina flooding. Europeans in general put a lot more trust in their central governments than we do, but on the other side of the ledger they get a lot more accountability.
I didn't say I accepted the smear campaign, just that I don't particularly mind if it works or not. Based on reading Ron Paul's actual voting record, what both conservative and liberal watchdog groups have said about his policies, and on actual position statements he's made, in my opinion he'd be an absolutely awful president. He's on the right track to point out that the bureaucracy in Washington has seriously fucked things up and changes need to be made, but you don't bomb the village to save the village.
With the state of U.S. education the way it is, abolishing the department of education is a dumb idea. All of his votes on tax issues and on general funding lead me to believe that his support for the NSF, DOE, and NASA, the three principal funding agencies for scientists (apart from NIH-- life sciences are a separate kind of deal), would be weak at best and disastrous at worst. Paul's voting record on environmental regulation is poor and it's safe to assume his support for the EPA would only go as far as his support for federal agencies in general (to which his attitude is unabashed hostility). He's against campaign finance reform, and pro-life (which I don't get all crusading about life a left-winger, but jesus christ, take a look around you and see if you can honestly tell me this country wouldn't be better off with about 5 times as many abortions).
Admire the frontier spirit all you want, but a "back off and leave it to the states" mentality is pernicious in the extreme and the pathway to a tremendous decline for the US. That's even leaving aside all the evidence from Reagan and Bush that wannabe conservatives end up increasing deficit spending, bloat, and inefficiency even more than democrats would. Don't confuse BAD government with SMALL government.
Like I've said before, Ron Paul gets my respect for being his own guy and not playing along with partyline bullshit. But to get my support, he's gonna have to combine that with policies that won't take America back to the days of the Articles of Confederation. If it takes a few accusations of him palling around with Klan members to get people seriously looking at the absurdity of some of his suggestions, then that's fine.
I've seen some otherwise sensible people jump on the Paul bandwagon because they're enchanted with his unwillingness to play ball with his own party, because the TV networks ignored him and it's fun to root for the underdog, and because he did well on Stewart and Colbert, and I just have to keep asking people: is this a guy who's gonna be interested in fixing the problems in the federal bureaucracy so we have better, more effective regulation of air, water, and food quality, a better education to keep us competitive in the world economy, and a well-thought out energy policy? Or is he just going to close up our borders, take apart the regulatory apparatus, and leave every state to fend for itself?
You don't need a smear campaign to see the answer to that.
