The Disciples - Part I: http://www.ubersite.com/m/86694
Sacrifice the Enforcer - Part II: http://www.ubersite.com/m/86791
It's been a year and all the children are gathered at the abandoned church again. Their numbers have grown from a hundred to at least a thousand. They stand crowded, shoulder to shoulder, staring straight ahead, chins tilted upward.
Kaity and Terri stand in the pulpit and survey the room full of children. The wires have begun twist the both of them. They stand upright, but with arched backs, the way a lizard might stand to run across water.
Terri nods and Kaity begins to speak. "We've been met with strong opposition these past few months. This opposition must be eliminated as it threatens our cause. It threatens our unity. It threatens every one of us."
The children clap and nod in agreement. They're a non-spirited bunch, a loyal bunch.
"Each and every one of you has a responsibility to the Disciples," Kaity bellows. "You owe it to yourself and to the rest of us to carry out your duty. Return to your homes. Go back to your mother and father. Kill them."
Kaity nods at Terri and they both climb off the pulpit, walk down the church aisle and exit the building. Their orders have been given. The children will obey.
Trey is the first to confront his parents who live only a block from the church. He knocks, his mother and father answer the door and they stare at him for just a moment, before embracing him and pulling him inside the house. They both walk with their arms around him, stroking his hair, talking excitedly, interrupting each other.
His father settles down at the kitchen table while Trey and his mother sit across from him. Trey runs one hand across the smooth glass and feels the cool wood underneath the table with his knee.
"We've been so worried," his mother says. "We didn't know what to think."
She glances down and sees Trey's hand, or rather, his lack of a hand. She gasps and grabs his wrist, holding his arm.
"What the hell happened?" she asks.
His father looks at the stub, seared clean at the wrist with no scar, perfectly smooth, the same color as the rest of his arm.
Trey bites his lip and pulls his arm away from her. "I had to," he answers.
"What do you mean?" his father asks, standing up and rushing around the side of the table to stand next to Trey.
"Human beings," Trey begins, "Inhibit themselves. The decisions they make are based upon individual need and individual desires. Mechanics is the answer. A responsibility to everyone and everything. My hand is gone, because it was MY hand. I should have no hand myself."
"What the hell are you talking about?" his father asks him again, raising his voice.
Trey hears the whisper in his head. "Kill them now."
He shakes his head. "No. No, I can't do it. I don't have to do it. I can't."
"What can't you do?" his mother asks, tears rolling down her cheeks.
Trey turns his head and covers his ears so that he can't hear the wires ripping through their flesh. He doesn't look to see their mangled bodies torn and splattered across the room. He gets up, walks out the front door and sticks his wrist in his pocket.
After a few years, Kaity and Terri are at each other's throats.
"You had no right," Kaity says. "You had no right to go behind my back and issue separate orders. The draft was in full effect and there was no reason to push things any further."
Terri glares at Kaity.
"I did what was necessary," Terri answers. She stands up and walks across the room to stand next to Kaity. "You're weak. Weak and unnecessary. Your time has passed."
"No fuck it hasn't," Kaity retorts, grabbing Terri by the back of the neck and digging her fingers into her flesh so that she can grip the ends of her wiring. She picks Terri up by her wires and slings her across the room.
There's a smack when Terri's head hits the side of the concrete wall, but the girl isn't stunned. She picks herself up off the ground and shakes her head. "This is how you want it?" she asks Kaity.
"Yes."
Terri rushes across the room and wraps her arms around Kaity's waist, pressing their bodies together so that Kaity can barely move. Kaity writhes a bit under Terri's grasp and lets out a scream when Terri digs her hand through the small of her back and yanks Kaity's wires. She tears them half out of Kaity's body, so that they jut out and curve around her torso.
Kaity collapses to the floor.
"You're just too weak," Terri says again. "You can never do what needs to be done."
Kaity squeaks and stares up at Terri.
"Get out!!!" Terri says. "Get out and never come back. I don't want to see your weak whiny mousey ass ever again. Go to the streets, live with the rebels, do whatever you want, but leave here. NOW!!!"
Kaity stumbles up and trudges to the door, holding her back where the wires are protruding. Her hand clamps around the door knob and she falls to her knees, crawling out of the room.
"You monster," she whispers.
Terri's power is unquestioned and unopposed. She's in her late teens now and every bit the beauty her parents thought she'd be. Her silken blonde hair cascades down her shoulders, unkempt and often un-brushed splattered with bits of blood.
Trey is at her side every minute she'll allow him to be. "What do you want of me today?" he asks her, bowing before her. He's grown into his lanky arms and long legs, a true vision, except smooth stub at the end of his arm. His stark brown hair and tanned skin is a sharp contrast to hers, but they're beautiful standing together.
"Love me," she says.
He crosses the room and wraps an arm around her neck, pressing his lips to hers.
"I didn't say kiss me," Terri says. "I said, love me."
"You ask too much," Trey replies.
He'll stand by her side for as long as she asks him to, but he can not love a monster. He can't watch her tear human beings apart, day after day, and have any emotion for the girl.
"I'm not a monster," she says.
He shakes his head. He often wonders if she can hear his thoughts. She probably can. He knows there isn't much she can't do and there isn't much she won't do.
He runs his hand through her blonde hair and kisses her on the forehead. She falls back onto her lounge, throws her head back and closes her eyes.
"You're a beautiful monster," Trey says.

#1 - What happened to Jake, Luke, Gia & Monee???
They'll be back
#2 - You may need to advance the age of the characters slightly into the middle school years.
They're already older than that. It says so in the third crot.
#3 - I love it when you write like this...
Can you tell I wrote this over a year ago?

What happened to Luke?
I love the drama. I might have liked to hear more about them as children, but they weren't children anymore anyway, I guess.
It ends with a lot of potential. The love element leaves it open. Maybe she'll eat him.
