Benoit was born in Montreal. He was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career. He was known by several names including "The Canadian Crippler."

An unconfirmed report from Georgia is suggesting that his wife killed their son by suffocating him with a garbage bag on Saturday, and called Benoit and told him their boy was ill and that he should come home. Then Benoit, returning, saw what she'd done and strangled her with the cord from a bedroom alarm clock. He penned a suicide note, apologized to his family and friends, and hanged himself.
I guess it doesn't matter if these details are true. It's fucked up any way you slice it.
