Hollywood Video fired my ass.
Long story short: I put in for this weekend off over two and a half months ago so the wife and I could go see Better Than Ezra in Illinoise. I come in today and take a look at the schedule to see that I'm set up to work both days I asked for. I confront the boss about it and she says that it's tough shit; I basically have to work despite the fact that I'm the only employee who requested those days off. I point this out to her and she tells me that her hands are tied because one of our shift leaders is working two jobs and "she needs a break".
I (respectfully) point out that not only is it not my problem that said shift leader is burning herself out, but also she did not go through the trouble of filling out the forms to request for time off. Boss-o-tron comes back with the fact that her hands are tied because our systems were down for the past two weeks (which was true) and another shift leader just quit to go work at Cedar Point. I retaliate, telling her that she knew that Shift Leader #2 was quitting for more than two weeks, and intimate that she could have asked the district managers for help in hiring some newbies. Bossmatic verbally shrugs her shoulders and basically says that there's nothing she can do, and that if I don't show up on Saturday and Sunday, I'm fired.
I spit in her face, tell her to swivel on it, and curse her and the store to an eternity of poor business. I tell her that no company should exist with such unfair employee relations. Bossenheimer fires me. I wish her good luck in going nowhere for the rest of her life.

I'll buy the story until the last paragraph. That part is complete crap. You did not spit in anyone's face, you did not tell anyone anything (except maybe "W-whaat?" with an incredulous look on your face), and you certainly did not form any coherent sentences on your way out the door.
This morning as I exited the expressway for the surface roads to my office, I saw your future. Your dirty, sleeping under bridges, eating garbage so you can use the money you panhandle for cigarettes and booze, dead of bleeding ulcers liver disease or or some STD by 45 years old future. And fuck you; I did not give you a dollar.

Well done, you got yourself fired.
What you should have done was attend work as timetabled, then on return submit all of the paperwork you filled in requesting the time off to her superiors, along with an invoice for the tickets, and asked them politely to sort this matter out for you.
What, you asked her in the break room and didn't get anything in writing? Well, guess you walked out of your job and deserved to be fired, then.

And something like this WOULD be trivial...if the job was satisfying, challenging, and paid well, but to put up with this shit for menial labor is ridiculous. I could let this go if the job were worthwhile, but getting fucked over for $6.95 an hour is idiotic.
