I can't help but wonder how discrimination works for those that are blind.
Racism is usually based on skin color or race. Blacks hate white, white hates black, Mexicans hate Indians (with the dot, not the feather) and so on and so forth. In order to tell one race from another, one must have a few identifiers. One identifier is what the individual looks like and another is how the individual speaks. Of course there are more identifiers, but I want to keep this simple.
I'm not including religion in this mix because it is too damn complicated.
If one is blind, how do they know if someone's face looks as if it has been smashed in with a shovel? How would blind people know if a person is so butt ugly that cats arch their backs and hiss at the mere site of the individual and dogs run away with their tails tucked in between their legs whining in pain?
And most importantly, how would a blind person know a persons race? They can't see!
They (who are they anyway?) say that blind people 'see' with their hands. Feeling a persons face, feeling their nose, eyes, hair, lips and even the ears. To me the blind person is feeling what they perceive to be a person. (Duh!) What about a good looking person? A good looking perception would be a smooth complexion, eyes that are not located on the side of the head (fish eyes) hair and having ears that are not the size of dumbo the elephant.
I'm sure they feel the nostrils to ensure that the Amazon jungle isn't jutting out.
But that is what I think and I'm not blind.
Hell, the blind man/woman may like a person with tons of acne scars; the scars may spell something out in brail for all I know.
Not to forget about the human voice. I'm sure everyone has heard the lady/man with a voice that makes nails scraping across the blackboard sound like music. I bet blind people categorize these voices. I bet they even discriminate against certain voices.
Hell, maybe the blind can be racist by accent. I bet the republican blind people hate the French.
Lo and behold the smell. Some blind people can smell a rat fart a mile away, let alone hear it. We all know some humans just stink. My guess is blind people discriminate against all those stinky fuckers out there too.
Stinky is the bum that has not washed behind his ears in four years and has pet flies swarming around him. Stinky also means the old lady that wears enough perfume that the stench stays on your clothes, even though you walked past her a few days ago.
I bet blind people have created a form of discrimination against the stinky, shrill voiced, hairy nosed people that speak with an accent.
Of course, I've lost lots of bets in my time.

Who said "member of the blind community"? I smell hippi. I'm sure self-respecting blind people enjoy having the rest of their character considered so insignificant that they are automatically ideologically packaged with the rest of the blind community. Tribalism. As though all blind people agree and their entire way of thinking is defined by the fact that they can't see.

Wrong.
Racism isn't based on skin colour or race - it's kind of like saying the taste of beer is based on water.
Racism exists because our simplistic little brains are easily clouded with hate and intolerance. Blind people would be equally exposed to the rhetoric that instills such irrational hatred in those of us with perfect eyesight. They would, arguably, be less likely to ACT on this learned sentiment - but blind people would be just as racist if their environment and individual morality dictated it.

ummm Despite the appearance of some of the posts, I don't think we actually have a fully fledged member of the blind community here to create a balanced discussion.
I would hope that they would base their discrimination on something healthy like who their mates hated at the time.
Sadly I would imagine that they have their own problems with discrimination to worry too much about discriminating about anyone else.
