Unless you live in Norway or listen to really fucking good music, chances are you won't have heard of Ugress, one of the many projects of Gisle Martens Meyer (http://gmm.ugress.com/) who is a complete nerd but makes some cool fucking tunes.
I heard about Ugress some time ago after flicking through the CDs of a mate I was staying with in Switzerland. He had a penchant for the heaviest of black metal, which is fine by me, but my ears get bored of it after a while and finding something that looked mercifully un-metally was a blessing.
Basically, the music is based around sampling and remixing as well as using live recordings. I've appreciated this kind of stuff in the past, personal favourites being 'The Cut Chemist', 'DJ Shadow' and 'DJ Yoda', but this is pretty much completely different as there's no scratching going on and it's not so club friendly. Well, that's a lie, as I've turned a DJ friend onto Ugress, and he regularly opens with a track of the (free) EP, 'Kosmonaut'.
Free EPs eh? You mean I can get music the RIAA won't try and buttfuck me for? Why yes. And what's more, there's three of them! Three for free, can't say fairer than that, can you?

My personal favourite is 'Retroconnaisance', but all are excellent, particularly the opening track on 'Kosmonaut'.
