I gave four years to the United States Army. Most of you know that. What none of you know is that as soon as I returned from a year in Baghdad, I was booted out of government lodgings and off the government's paycheck. You see, if the Army has no room for a soldier in their barracks wherever you're stationed, they're obligated to pay you a monthly salary to make sure you can pay rent somewhere off post. In December 06(as soon as I got back), I was kicked out of government housing and expected to make rent. No big deal, I put in the paper work for Basic Allowances for Housing, filled out all the right forms, and even got signatures from my highest commanders saying that there were no rooms left in the barracks. That was in MARCH. I have yet to see one dollar they owe me. When a soldier leaves the army, he is expected to pay for any equipment that he's lost that the army issued him. I owe the army 700 bucks for shit that I lost in COMBAT!!! They won't hesitate to take that money from me, but I have to fight for every penny that I earned by umm, LIVING!?!?! That, and they only offer veteran's benefits to WOUNDED vets? you gotta be shitting me...
I'm a vet. I got shot at and bombed and I stood there between my friends and death for a year, and this is the thanks I get?
I guess being a decorated Sergeant is yesterday's news?
So here I am, waiting for money that I'm depending on to get me home so I can start a new job. I'm broke as fuck because the Army zeroed out my last paycheck and they apparently don't pay vets no more. I'm more than fed up right now. This is beyond anything I've ever seen America do. This is War. If they want war inside, they got it.

Good for you, Foolproof, you did more time than I. I'm only double stacked. okay. The fact is, when I got back from my one little tour, the army threw me out on the street and told me there was no room on post for me anymore because of the influx of new soldiers who were populating the barracks. My friend who re-upped, on the other hand, immediately got approved for BAH and cheap on-post housing. He had it waiting for him as soon as he stepped foot off the bird. The fact that I had no urge to be in the army after spending a year in downtown Baghdad seemed to mean that I didn't deserve BAH when I got home, even though I had over 300 missions as a rear security 50 cal gunner. Even though I served as a litter bearer for every casualty that came in my FOB, because I lived in the same building as the Aid Station. Even though I served on the funeral detail and shot volleys for every one of my friends who died while I was there. Even though my team was the group that developed the frag-5 kits and we were the first ones to put ballistic glass on the m-1114 turrets and to slide extra glass inside the doors. Oh yeah, we were ignored for that, too.
And I get home and it takes MONTHS to recieve pay that I'm entitled to? Oh, yes, I got my money, by the way. I just have to wait here in shithouse Kentucky and deal with Ft. Campbell for ten more days. There is no SGT. Barnard anymore, I've already ETS'd. So take your time and grade and rank and tours and stripes and awards and stick them up your Green ASS. FUCK THE ARMY.

I've been in 8 years. Three wars.
I went to college on the Army's time and dollar.
I bettered myself in preparing to leave the Army. I end my time in September 2008.
I get disability, but I have that coming for the Army breaking me in several ways.
The thing is, most Soldiers don't get themselves ready to leave the Army. But, if you paid attention, there are MANY, MANY benefits for vets. Huge benefits like the housing loan and small ones like 2 free years medical care for combat vets.
Here's what I suggest:
Stop bitching and man up to the fact that YOU screwed yourself.
By the way, this is coming from a triple stacked, well decorated, war vet Sergeant who now holds a BA that I didn't "pay"for.

Bad situation. My sympathies.
I despise what your army represents, but also despise the way it treats its troops. From what i've heard, it isn't much better for British veterans, either.
