I guess this is as decent a list a person could come up with when it's such an opinionated thing. Just like posting best albums ever or top five places to abduct a small child, etc.

Great list.

I would have to throw in (as if they wheren't mentioned already):

- Louis CK (underrated...His show was funny as hell, too bad it got canned)
- Richard Pryor (no explaination needed)
- Lewis Black (how can you NOT love a spastic Jew?)

Did the King Salmon experiment ever take off or are they still small in numbers?
(ummmmm......)

Is there still a problem with the zebra mussles?
(uhhhhhhhhhh.....)

I remember being able to head 2 miles out of Ashtabula and limiting out on yellow perch in an hour.
You can go out boating in the deeper parts and be fine. Fishing is great in the middle. In the shallows....there is human/Dog/Etc. feces floating. They are frequently closing the beaches due to fecal contamination. and the DAY they re-open it, the masses just flood back in there to swim in it.

I'll stick to swimming in my neighbors pool.

NO RICHARD PRYOR?

There would be no Chris Rock without Eddie Murphy and no Eddie Murphy without RICHARD PRYOR!

==============

And no Richard Pryor without Paul Mooney writing half of his jokes...

Dave Chapelle's show was decent, his stand up was amazing. You didn't even mention his stand up. You purple drink hating son of a bitch!

Seinfeld's stand up is good if you're mildly retarded. The show is awesome. Speaking of Seinfeld, Larry David is waaay funnier than Jerry Seinfeld. If you compare the jokes in the show that Seinfeld also uses in his stand up routine, the show wins every time. Why? Because Seinfeld had a great cast of four main contributors, and a slew of great supporting characters. Compare that to Curb Your Enthusiasm. Larry carries that show on his oddly shaped back.

Three black comedians and no Richard Pryor, how does that even happen?

Are you kidding? You make me laugh here all the time. Sincerely.

I'll say I do think Dane Cook gets a bad rap. Surely he's gotten a leg up based on his attractiveness to the ladies, and he seems sort of like an arrogant asshole to me, but I do think he's funny sometimes.

And I can't believe I didn't see or mention Sarah Silverman myself.

I know the true cognoscenti think Dane Cook is a hack, but I'm sorry, he's fucking funny.

I never get tired of watching Dave Chappelle's "Killin them Softly". It remains, in my opinion, the best, most insightful, and funniest stand-up special of all time.

I adore stand-up comedy, almost to the point of idolizing it. It's the purest performance art, and the most difficult one. It's just you and the mic up on stage, trying to make people laugh. Making people laugh is so hard. I've never been able to do it.

"Ranters": Carlin, Black, Leary, & Hicks. They get laughs by smashing straw-man arguments, because they mostly preach to like-minded people. Bill Maher too. Although Carlin has more in his reportoire than the others, so he's only mildly annoying.

"Severed foot is the ultimate stocking stuffer." Love Hedberg.

I think this post illustrates the HUGE differance between british and American humour.....

Cant say I find many of this individuals funny, all pretty much straight down the line, basic comedy....Dennis Leary for fucks sake?? Plus theres a couple of people I have never heard of on this list.

Sure it will meet with lots of peoples agreement though.........Seinfield too, used to watch that show and yes it was funny, very funny. Trouble is it looks and sounds so dated now! I have no idea about his stand up, although that was the least funny part of 'Seinfield' for sure!!

A few things:

Bill Cosby's thing about conniptions is the funniest thing I have ever seen on TV. He'd by first on my list.

Dane Cook is fucking hilarious and anybody who doesn't think so is retarded. His comedy central stuff isn't that great, but it's better than most of what's out there and it's the bottom of his barrel.

Ellen is also hilarious.

Would have like Hedberg on this list. He might be my #2.

Pryor too.

I like the Seinfeld nod. Maybe a little high, but his show was the best ever on television, save for the one it followed for so many years (Simpsons...)

Lewis Black would have been my 3rd.

Good list altogether.

Peter Kay should also be on this list of comedians.

To be fair, I probably haven't given the office enough of a chance, but it seriously just makes my skin crawl to watch it. If Gervaise would just mix it up a little bit, I might find him funny, but every single thing I've seen him in (The Office, Extras, The Simpsons, Night at the Museum, etc), he just seems to be EXACTLY the same. It makes me sad that he's from Reading, where I live.

I do love Simon Pegg, though, and after Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, I feel he should be given unlimited money and power.

Little Britain has a lot to answer for, to be sure! Did they ever get around to making Little America?

Uh, the whole point of The Office is that it's meant to be hellish to watch, but if you've ever had a weird/annoying boss, (and let's be honest, who hasn't) then you'll find it funny.

To be fair, the first series of Little Britain wasn't total shit. The national obsession with that fucking show has become beyond a joke, as has Walliams behaving like a total cunt on everything he appears on.

Lucas and Walliams are wankers though.

I've had Dylan Moran shoved down my throat for MONTHS, as my best mate practically wanks at his name. Not to mention the Paramount Comedy ads of a while back where I had to hear his stupid soundbytes over and over again. The only thing he made me smile in was Shaun of the Dead when he got ripped limb from limb. Major points there!

And to be honest, I was only able to sit through half of the first episode of The Office and part of the Christmas special, as I find his particular brand of "humour" excruciating to watch.

And yes, Lucas and Walliams are complete knobs.

Fuck Dylan Moran.
Fuck Ricky Gervais.

Bill Bailey is the fucking daddy, though. I'm watching Nevermind the Buzzcocks right now, and he's speaking Klingon and making THAT face.

And if anyone mentions fucking Matt Lucas or David Walliams, I will have to cut off some heads.

Drake - I've seen so much better from you. This looks slapped together, like you spent only 20 minutes on it. Tsk tsk.

While I disagree with about 1/2 of this list, I do find this post to be well done and entertaining.

I'll dispense with the "WTF?11!1? LOLZ M8!! WHYZ NOES 'SUCH AND SUCH' ORZ 'DAT GUYZ'?!? BBQ11!"

I have people I could list, but I'll assume either:
a. You've never heard of them.
b. You've never heard their act.
c. You have heard of them and you don't find them funny.

Whatever, I appreciate the fact that you at least included a small paragraph explaining your reasons for each one. Many would have just posted a list with no explanation. http://www.ubersite.com/m/1359 (and that made B@W).

The seinfeld thing is either love or hate. Kinnison is there because of a glorious brain fart on my end, forgetting about pryor. Thank you for the ellen comment. I personally love her work. That and I needed a girl on here to keep it even, and I'll be damned if roseanne or margaret Cho get on MY lists. As far as eddie izzard, check out "definite article" next to dress to kill, it's his best work.

Ive also never been a big fan of Robin Williams. He's better as a serious actor than a stand-up (I know its where he got his start) Especially now. Too hyperactive. Jimmy fallon nailed Him on celebrity jeopardy.

Bill Bailey, Dylan Moran, Ricky Gervais.

----------------------------------

I only know Ricky Gervais from TV, the office and extra's, how is his stand-up? I am going to have to youtube when I get home...

========

His stand up is very funny. Not the same as the Office at all, but still great.

Jerry Seinfeld is not funny. His stand up is not funny and his show was only mediocre, and that was due to the character of Kramer and Larry David's writing. His work appealed to soccer moms as it had a bland, pop music-like approach. Which isn't to say Bill Cosby isn't the same, but his material and delievery was always better.

Sorry, I couldn't care less about Sam Kinison. His whole act simply involved him screaming at the appropriate times.

I've actually seen a few Of Ellen's standup shows. They really are quite funny. Her timing is incredible, but maybe not top 10.

Eddie Izzard rules my face off. I have 3 of his DVD's - "Glorious" , "Dress To Kill" and "Circle"

Richard Pryor & Robin Willaims DEFINITELY should have been on this list. But Mitch Hedberg??? Funny, but no...

Bah, a top 10 is subjective. In my opinion you got the #1 and #2 spots perfectly right - and I would only argue against Ellen, Sam, and Dennis being in the top 10 - but as they are fucking funny its not surprising they are in yours.

If you have never heard of Bill Hicks - go forth and download. Immediately. He is responsible for at least 3 people in your top 10.

To each his own in their sense of humor. The stuff I find the funniest is the kind of comedy that makes me want to blush. I like being offended.

+2 for not having and of the 'Blue Collar' fucktards on the list as well. I got free tickets to Larry the Cable Fuckwit and it was AWFUL.

I will never agree on Sienfeld being funny, either his standup or the show. I found the show boring, frustrating and somewhat predicable at times. If you want funny television or radio listen to some of the BBCs 'The Goon Show', some of the earlier Monty Python and there is another show whose name eludes me right now but it was where John Cleese got his start. 'I'm sorry I'll read that again' is what it was called.
