As I drove down Howard Street, I noticed a moderately attractive girl on my right-hand side. The striking thing about her was her obviously fake 4 foot long pig-tails, fish nets, and little red riding hood looking outfit, worn at 5 pm on a Saturday in downtown Baltimore. I shook my head and laughed it off as just another freaky-freak sighting.
After parking the car and exiting the garage, my friend looks at me in confusion and asks if I hear a bingo game. I concentrate, and turning my head to the right I find what seems to be a bingo game being played. Odd I think, but again, this is the city. *Note: I later found out that they probably weren't playing bingo, but pokemon or some similar game*
Turning the corner, that's when THEY emerged - hundreds of freaks, dressed in God only knows what. Among the many, MANY swords and axes wielded by these freaky-freaks were the costumes. I have zero idea what I was looking at, (girls were dressed as guys, guys were dressed as girls, most girls who were fat and homely looking were dressed as school-girl types, and the few semi-pretty girls were dressed in either heavy goth stuff or man's clothes) but I wondered how the hell some of them got around. One sad boy, (who no doubtedly lived in his mom's basement and sold pints of his own blood to afford to get there) was wearing a box on his head, and from what I could tell, it had no area to breathe or see out of. I wonder if he got hit by a car or suffocated (God willing).
It was then I started wondering what kind of alternate universe I had stepped into, and was seriously cursing myself for not bringing some sort of survival kit should they begin to attack.
While in the restaurant, I notice the pair at the table behind ours. They were normal looking enough, but hat made me take notice of them were the mass quantities of food they were eating - three appetizers between them, and two dinners each. While staring, as people watching happens to be my favorite sport, I notice the badges they are wearing. The letters printed on them spelled out the dubious word Otakon - dun dun duuuuuunnnnnnn. It is then I realize what depths of hell I've been submerged into - smack dab in the middle of a fucking anime convention.
After dinner and the subsequent wandering through the hordes of these people, we made it to our destination - seeing REO Speedwagon and ZZ-Top. I'm so cool, I know. Stray Cats and The Pretenders also played, but they weren't good; I took a nap during Stray Cats. Surprisingly, REO brought the house down - they were excellent. ZZ-Top rocked my 80's lovin' socks off, as expected.
Highlights from the Concert:
1. There was a guy who was, not only, dressed like Brian Setzer, but had the Stray Cats logo tattooed on his arm. I had many laughs at his expense.
2. About 6 rows down from me, on the floor of the arena, there was a guy in denim American flag shorts. He danced and spun around, hitting everyone in the vicinity. He was of great amusement, until he got escorted out by security for barfing near the soundstage and then lying down in it to take a nap.
3. The row right below us held an emo kid accompanied by either his mother or girlfriend - I honestly couldn't tell. The scary, scary guy behind them leeched after the older lady and babbled at us all night long. The only thing sadder than me being exceedingly excited to see ZZ-Top is the old, creepy guy who comes to the concert alone.
4. Watching ZZ-Top play 'Legs' with fuzzy guitars.
5. I had no idea that the lead singer of REO was a midget. A bleach blonde midget, to be exact. He was maybe 5'4" tall, and had the most obnoxious blonde hair with black roots evar. About 2 songs in, I noticed he may have been on meth, as he was hopping around, speed talking, and scratching on his face and arms a lot. Hey, it didn't stop me from enjoying 'Can't Fight This Feeling', 'Keep On Loving You', and 'Take It On The Run'

stray cats were one of the best bands i've seen live here.
they were very in to it and the crowd went nuts.
that and i saw them with my muse, so the momory holds dear.

Aren't they just the oddest people? I haven't liked them since one of them threw a whiskey bottle onto my windsheild from the Courtyard hotel on Aliceanna St, while I was working night shift in 2004. Bastards. Them and their pink wigs and fake swords.

Last year for my birthday we decided to go to the Harbor for the day and chill. OH MY GOD We got there and it was the same anime festival so you could imagine in every little nook and cranny of Harbor place was crawling with life's little known people. The ones who you see at the mall and just walk past, but when you have like 10,000 of them in your face you see they're true power. I should have opened and acne fighting booth. I swear I could have made some loot.

Liking ZZ Top is acceptable, having preference for them over the other two bands is what feeds my ire.
How's the sandbox treating you?
Someone did reciently say to me that the only thing they knew about Queens is that Gallagers 2000 was located there. When I told them that if the most notable thing about where I live are strippers and booze that I have achieved much in life, our conversation turned a tad awkward.
Who doesn't like strippers, I mean when they aren't hot they are amusing.
Whats better than getting home from a night of hard drinking smelling like you bathed in Tommy Girl and covered in butt glitter? I submit nothing.

the sandbox has been good to me so far. it's given me a chance to get away from the lab and my office and just come out here and kick some ass. i've been hitting the gym here and getting a tan, so that's good. i saw a picture of me when i was in the military and my arms were twice as big and it was really depressing, so i'm trying to work out every day here. i also set aside 10 grand for workout equipment that's going in my basement when i get home.
anyway, my sentiments exactly about strippers and booze. and you are HARDCORE for rallying, Juls. oh yes, oh yes. i remember rallying in Austin after puking and spitting up blood from drinking so much and i still made out with Loren that night. BAAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!
and Dan, if you want to go to G2000, i'll be hitting up NYC to visit the Irish girl and the Greek. it's on me, buddy. see, i'm not married, so i actually get to spend buttloads of money on strippers and booze. the last time i went to a strip club, i think i must have given the waitress over a grand and told her to bring me stacks of ones (she glared at me when she realized who was going to have to count that many ones out). then i stood up and yelled "WHO WANTS A MONEY SHOWER???" all the girls jumped up and down with glee as i showered them with stacks of money. then i think i spent another grand building money houses on my table. my buddy took a stack of money and started building Stonehenge on the stage.
needless to say, i was a popular guy that night. more than one girl offered to come back to my hotel room. i would have brought a few back if i had been more sober. in the state i was in, there's no way i wasn't going to pass out while those bitches robbed me blind.

Last time I did something like that I apparently did the index finger universal "wait a moment" signal, walked 5 steps away projectile yarfed and then came back over like nothing happened, when my friend asked me if I was ok I responded with "Puke and rally fucking bitches" and went to get a beer. I remember nossing. I was drunkenly perched on the back of a motorcycle in NYC this weekend too, all these things spell im sooo smart.

Mmm...butt glitter. I would have loved to check out G2000, but in the spirit of NYC, I would have had to sell a kidney to afford a night of good times in there. I guess I'll just have to be happy with horking on their entire front wall.

I love The Pretenders and tolerate the Stray Cats, but they were horrible. I don't know if it was an off night or what b/c it seemed that both bands were just playing b/c of legal obligations. There wasn't anything to their performance and it wasn't fun in watching them. It's sad when The Pretenders got the obligatory clap at the end of their set.
