About a year ago, an aquaintance of mine decided he was going to try and write a fantasy novel. He asked for my help in designing the look for some of the characters. It was kinda fun, although I found it slightly difficult, as I've read very little strict fantasy in my life. Aside from the Dragonlance series when I was younger and the first number of book in Terry Goodkind's Sword Of Truth series, that's about it. (Piers Anthony's Xanth stuff, but that doesn't count.) This guy has recently abandoned the project, so I don't really feel bad about posting some of the design illustrations here. The images are kinda crap since they were taken with a digital camera, but my scanner is (still) broken. The reason the feet are cropped out of the first four pictures is because I removed all the notes that were scribbled at the bottom...

Why is Elfin Caul splattered in blood?

I had done these in a sketchbook and I had forgot to place a "Bleed Sheet" above Elfin Caul and the pic beneath which I was coloring with markers. The markers were permenant and soaked through the paper, tinting Elfin Caul's image.
I was pretty pissed off at the time, but I still really liked the illustration, so I just kept it...

you usually don't see people's muscle defenition, like their pecs or abs center line when they wear a robe (bottom left).
