I don't get this, but I was watching TV and thought of you: I heard on the news that apparently Canadians CAN claim their mortgage payments. More to come as I find out details.

This is half correct--to be eligible the mortgage must become a HELOC (home equity line of credit) then it can be deducted. If you're interested in this stuff--go check out Universal Life Coverage, used in combination with the HELOC it cuts peoples taxes by something like 50-75 %.
It's still grey area though, the governmnet will catch on, just like the income trust structure, then they'll regulate the fuck out of it and it'll be a loser.
