"Good list. But since Metallica will always be second to none, 8 on the Geektometer."

Megadeth vs. Metallica, the majority of you out there will say "No contest Metallica". You'll tell me "Well Metallica has sold more albums!" which really only proves they have excellent marketing skills on top of a good product. However i'd wager those of you who would say that, have never given Megadeth the proper chance. Your only exposure to Megadeth was probably the song Symphony of Destruction, which is a very good song, but it's practically the only song that gets any air play from Megadeth. That is of course versus about twenty Metallica songs that get played in constant circulation on the radio. You're probably the kind of person that heard Enter Sandman, bought the black album and that was your Metallica experience. Then you'll tell me "I don't care fuck you", well fuck you too.

But before I go any further perhaps I should give the brief history of how this feud came about, for all those out there who have lived under a rock the past thirty or so years..

(taken from wikipedia)

In 1981 Dave Mustaine left his first band Panic to join Metallica as the lead guitarist. Metallica's drummer had posted an ad in a local newspaper, called The Recycler, looking for a lead guitarist. In his own words, Mustaine remembers his first meeting with James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich: "I was convinced that I should be in the band and went to rehearsal. I was tuning up when all the other guys in the band went into another room. They weren't talking to me, so I went in and said, 'Well? Am I in the band or not?' and they said, 'You've got the gig.' I couldn't believe how easy it had been and suggested that we get some beer to celebrate."

Mustaine's membership in Metallica, however, would last less than two years. Brian Slagel, an early manager of the band, recalls in an interview: "Dave was an incredibly talented guy, but he also had an incredibly large problem with alcohol and drugs. He'd get wasted and become a real crazy person, a raging maniac, and the other guys just couldn't deal with that after a while. I mean, they all drank of course, but Dave drank more... much more. I could see they were beginning to get fed up of seeing Dave drunk out of his mind all the time."

One night, in a drunken state, Mustaine poured a full can of beer into Metallica's then-bassist Ron McGovney's bass. When McGovney tried to play it, he received an electric shock and, in his own words, was "blown across the room." One of the major arguments within the band occurred when Mustaine decided to bring his dog to a rehearsal. He usually left it to guard his stash of heroin before he sold it, but on this day he brought it along. As they neared the building where the band were to play, Ron McGovney was pulling up in his car. Dave's dog immediately began scratching at it and climbing on the hood. McGovney was angry and started shouting at Mustaine. Next Hetfield emerged from the building and did the same. Things got heated and Hetfield kicked Dave's dog. Mustaine threatened to hit James and Ron said: "If you're going to hit him, you'll have to hit me first." When Mustaine turned to him James added: "If you're going to hit Ron, you'll have to hit me first." To this Dave replied: "You win James!" and punched him. According to McGovney, James flew across the room. Ron then jumped on Mustaines back, was flipped and thrown against a wall. The other band members then got up and told Dave he was fired. He quickly left after collecting his stuff. The next day he went back to the rehearsal room, walked through the door and asked: "Can I be back in the fucking band?" "Yeah, okay." Came the reply. Shortly after these events, Ron McGovney left Metallica in part due to the band members view of him as just "a follower", not motivated and also due to behavioural issues with Dave, he was replaced by Cliff Burton. In April of 1983, Mustaine was officially fired from Metallica for his alcoholism, cocaine abuse, and because of his personality clashes with founding members Ulrich and Hetfield . The band packed up Mustaine's gear, drove him to a Greyhound bus station in Rochester, NY, and put him on a bus bound for Los Angeles.

"James and I have always been the main thing in this band, and we always looked at Dave and Ron [McGovney] and thought, 'This is fine for now, but... ' We had a vision and these guys weren't gonna last. We weren't gonna kick them out, but if we happened to find someone who could fit in, we get'em in the band." (Ulrich, 1983)

"Dave was all speed. He had no feeling, he had no pull-offs, he had no brilliant things. He tried to get brilliant sometimes, but it would sound awful." (Hetfield, 1983)

(this was taken from the booklet in the remastered killing is my business and business is good)

"When I left New York, after getting fired from Metallica, all I remember is that I wanted blood, Theirs. I set out to make my new band faster and heavier than theirs and had most of my music that oddly ended up on kill 'em all and on Ride the Lightning set to be recorded for our first musical offering Killing is my Business...And Business is Good! That was snuffed out when I listened to their first record and I realized that they went through with recording my stuff after I asked them not to." - Dave Mustaine

As you can see, this obviously had the makings of a decent made for t.v. movie, except what happened instead was people were watching both bands to see just what would happen, who would out do the other and so on. There were different interviews on the subject in which each side bashed the other, Dave Mustaine even said (while obviously under some sort of influence, heroin most likely) that he tried to quit the band a few times cause he wanted to play faster but they wouldn't let him, and he felt they were holding him back.

But like all things that produce some of the best music out there, this feud came to an end.

Metallica and Megadeth played a few concerts together in Europe in 1993, including the famous Milton Keynes Bowl in June with Diamond Head, where Dave proclaimed:

"The ten years of bullshit is over between Metallica and Megadeth!"

And since there have been a few miniscule altercations, but nothing that reignited the feud to it's former glory.

"I keep comparing Megadeth to Metallica. I realized that often people hate the things, which they really love. I loved to play with Metallica. When they kicked me out I lost something which I loved and I started to hate them. Now every morning I fall to my knees and thank God for being able to finally see this truth." (Mustaine)

Though clearly the initial feud itself is over, the feud still continues amongst fans, but usually it's just some asshole trying to piss everyone off. People go as far to say that Dave is a shitty guitarist, or Metallica are sell outs. I've seen it in forums, i've seen it in chat rooms and i've heard it being debated among friends, just who the hell is better? And that is where I shall express my opinion on.

First I will compare each album from both bands in order of release date, though some albums will not match up (time frame wise) they do as far as being released by the bands themselves.

Without further ado...

First off to compare both bands first albums released.

that being

Metallica - Kill EM' ALL Vs. Megadeth - Killing is my Business... and Business is good!

One fact I think people fail to realize about Kill em' all is that Dave Mustaine has writing credits on four different songs. Including The Four Horseman, Jump in the Fire, Phantom Lord, and Metal Militia. For those of you who only listen to Seek and Destroy, you should give these tracks a try they're some of the best on the album. Overall though Kill em' all is really good, though i'm not entirely certain if it's because of Dave Mustaine, or if it's because it's just kick ass. But either way it's a definite must have if you're a fan of Metallica.

As far as Killing is my Business goes...

It's a very good Album, however, I just don't think it's quite as good as Kill Em All. Perhaps because Dave Mustaine was burned out and wrote most of it on the spot, or because he initially intended to use his material he wrote for Metallica on it. Either way, it's a good album, but it just seems too experimental on Dave Mustaines part. Some of his singing styles on the songs aren't great, and the lyrics need work, but the guitar riffs are amazing. Most notable song, the Mechanix a faster, heavier four horseman.

Winner: Dave Mustaine

I say Dave Mustaine and not Megadeth because he wrote songs for both albums. And each one has it's great points, but one thing is the same and that is his riffs, which made the albums classics. (or at least contributed to them).

Next up Metallica - Ride the Lightning Vs. Megadeth - Peace Sells... but who's buying?

Ride the lightning is perhaps one of Metallicas best, and though not many people know this (or acknowledge it), Dave Mustaine actually has credits for two songs on this album as well. Those being the song Ride the Lightning, and the Instrumental the Call of Ktulu. It's most memorable tracks for me are For whom the Bell Tolls, Creeping Death, Ride the Lightning and Fade to Black. But in general I can listen to the whole album all the way through without skipping a track (though i'm sure you don't give a shit) which is why it is definitely one of Metallicas best.

Peace Sells...

Ahh yes, this album is definitely a classic Megadeth album. I say that because it is the first album to feature Vic Rattlehead the some what Mascot of Megadeth. If you're not familiar with what i'm talking about.

http://nuclear.ucdavis.edu/~rpicha/personal/megadeth/ps_500.jpg

Any who, Dave really came into his own on this record. He seemed much more confident, much more focused and much faster, louder, and heavier. It also contains one of the more famous Megadeth tracks, that being peace sells, With one of the most notorious bass riffs for an opening. Memorable Tracks Peace Sells, Wake up Dead, Devil's Island, Good Mourning/Black Friday.

Winner: Megadeth

Sorry but I have to give this one to Megadeth for the fact that Peace Sells has some very VERY great guitar work, and not to mention just bad ass all together. I'll admit Ride the Lightning has equally good guitar work, however the solos in peace sells are almost equal to none.

Now it comes down to the more infamous, Metallica - Master of Puppets Vs. Megadeth - So far so good so what?

Metallicas Master of Puppets is one of the most famous albums by the band. It is often the record everyone compares everything to (both Metallica and other bands). When it came out there was practically nothing like it out there, and not to mention, it was the last album to feature well known bassist of the band Cliff Burton. Over all, it is the pinnacle of bad ass, and often most bands when they put out an album considered to be great, it is said to be their "Master of Puppets"
Memorable Tracks Master of Puppets, Battery, Leper Messiah, and Sanitarium.

So far.. So Good... So What?

The main difference between these two albums though, is Master of Puppets was written before Cliffs death, and so far so good so what was written after. Dave Mustaine even writes a song in memory of Cliff called "In My Darkest Hour" The album itself is a very good one, and worth owning, however it is no master of puppets and I will admit to you that. Dave Mustaine claims he wrote some of the riffs to Leper Messiah off Master of Puppets, however he was denied credit. Memorable tracks Set the World on Fire, (cover of) Anarchy in the U.K., In My Darkest Hour, and Liar.

Winner: Metallica

Hands down Metallica has Megadeth beat. Though to be honest, there are some very good songs on So Far So Good So What? It is definitely no Master of Puppets.

Now we get down to the truly memorable. Metallica - And Justice For All.... Vs. Megadeth - Rust in Peace

And Justice for all was made after Cliff Burtons death. Though he did contribute to the album, (slightly) the album was made in almost dedication to him. And to be honest, it is my favorite Metallica album. I admit, I like a lot of Metallicas stuff, but this album it just sticks out. I'm not sure if it's because they took all their frustration over cliffs dying out over this album, or if they wanted it to be a perfect dedication, but it's definitely one of their best and well known. Memorable tracks, One, ...And Justice For All, To Live is To Die, Blackened.

Rust in Peace is by far the best Megadeth album there is. You can ask any Megadeth fan, and they'll more than likely agree (or tell you Countdown is better) but hands down it's the best. I remember when I first bought this C.D. I almost bought some other shitty one instead. A friend thought I should get this one instead and I thought to regret it at first. But when I started listening to it, I instantly fell in love. Each track better than the last. This is their "Master of Puppets" so to say, but for the Megadeth fan this album is the album to compare every other album to. You'll hear them say "It's good, but it's no Rust."
Memorable tracks, Hangar 18, Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars, Five Magics

Winner: Tie

To be honest, I can't choose. And if you're a fan of both, you probably can't choose either. I'm sure you'll disagree and tell me One is much better than all that rust non sense, however I only ask, you give Rust a chance and check it out. You wont regret it.

Now... the two albums that made them who they are. Metallica - Black Album Vs. Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction

The Black Album is Metallicas most known album. Regarded as their best by most whom don't listen to them often, but love Enter Sandman. I'll admit it has it's good tracks and is worth buying. However, most true Metallica fans know, it's definitely not their best, but it is good. More or Less, it's Metallica being more radio friendly, which paid off. Memorable Tracks Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Wherever I May Roam, and the Unforgiven, (a personal fave i'd like to include) The God that Failed. I included this track because the lyrics are amazing and the guitar matches the lyrics perfect, however it's not the most notorious on the album. The song is however about James Hetfields mother and her dying of cancer because she refused to seek treatment, due to her religious beliefs.

Countdown to Extinction

If there were ever an album to compete with The Black Album, this would be it. It is Megadeths best selling album and features the well known song Symphony of Destruction. It is also a more radio friendly Megadeth as well. Though it didn't outsell the Black Album, it certainly did hold it's own and I have to say, it was the first Megadeth Album I ever owned. Memorable Songs, Symphony of Destruction, Sweating Bullets, Skin O' My Teeth, Ashes in your Mouth, and Foreclosure of a Dream.
In particular Sweating Bullets is by far one of the best songs by Megadeth, it is not as known as Symphony of Destruction, and doesn't get nearly as much airplay.

Winner: Metallica

I'll tell anyone and everyone i'm a Megadeth fan through and through, But even I see the facts in this one. Though Countdown is great, it didn't do nearly as much as the Black Album did for Metallica.

These next two aren't nearly as good as the aforementioned, but have good tracks regardless. Metallica - Load Vs. Megadeth - Youthanasia

Metallicas Load was not received well by the old school Metallica fans. It was much more radio friendly, and nowhere near the caliber of Master of Puppets or the Black Album. Regardless of that it still had it's good tracks. Memorable Tracks, Until it Sleeps, King Nothing, Hero of the Day, and Bleeding me. I'd like to point out, bleeding me is perhaps one of Metallicas best songs, and also one of their most underrated. I suggest if you're a fan but never gave load a chance, you check out Bleeding me.

Youthanasia, is not Megadeths best, however it is a great album regardless. Featuring a song about suicide Mustaine considers, one of the greatest songs he ever wrote. That song being A Tout Le Monde. Recently the song has been covered again with the lead singer from Lacuna Coil, however I don't recommend this version, it's not nearly as good. The record had a few memorable tracks, and some that just sort of blend together. Memorable tracks, Reckoning Day, A Tout Le Monde, Train of Consequences, Victory.

Winner: Megadeth

Load is a great album and all, however Youthanasia has that edge to it, that extra push if you will. Which is why I have to give this one to Megadeth.

Were getting close to the end.. Metallica - ReLoad Vs. Megadeth - Cryptic Writings

ReLoad is not a great album all in all, it is however worth giving a listen to. Definitely not a favorite among fans, but it definitely holds it own. Memorable Tracks, Fuel, Devils Dance, Unforgiven 2, The Memory Remains.

Cryptic Writings is a great Megadeth Album, it features some of their great stuff (not best) but great that is for sure. By old school Megadeth Fans it's not as well received, however it has some tracks to satisfy that old school fan in all of us. Memorable Tracks, Trust, Almost Honest, She-Wolf, and Vortex. In particular i'd recommend Vortex, it has some great guitar riffs, and Mustaine himself said it reminded him of the "Good Old Days".

Winner: Megadeth

I don't think many fans out there would disagree with me on this. Hands Down Cryptic Writings is just plain better.

Unfortunately after reload Metallica didn't release too many albums. They did release Garage Inc. But that's just them covering other bands. Garage Inc. Is a must buy if you're a Metallica fan, however Megadeth hasn't put out anything similar to it. Megadeth did however release two albums that did alright, but weren't all that great. The released Risk, which is considered their St. Anger, and the World needs a Hero. Risk is bad, it has a few good tracks, but overall it's bad. Most Megadeth fans would agree with me on that. World needs a Hero, is sort of the same, however it has it's some what better. But both, are not Megadeths best.

These next two, nobody will disagree with me on Metallica - St. Anger Vs. Megadeth - The System has Failed.

St. Anger sucked, as a friend of mine said, had any other band released St. Anger except Metallica, it would've been a huge success. However, the fans expected better and there aren't many people I know that enjoyed St. Anger. I'll admit, it was an interesting experiment by Metallica, but the world just wasn't ready for it yet. I do defend this album against idiots who say they hate it just because they want to sound cool, however I don't like this album and it's the only Metallica album i've never bought. Memorable Tracks....

The System has Failed was the album that marked the reemergence of Megadeth. For a while they were thought to have been broken up, due to an injury Dave Mustaine sustained while being treated for kidney stones. It happened by accident, he fell asleep in a chair with his arm hanging over it and suffered a compressed radial nerve in his left hand/arm. Which left him unable to play guitar. The Doctors told him it would be a while before he played guitar again, but he successfully went through therapy and came out perhaps, better than ever. Memorable Tracks, Blackmail the Universe, Die Dead Enough, Of Mice and Men, The Scorpion. In particular, of Mice and Men is definitely one of Megadeths greatest songs. It is an autobiographical song, which tells the life of Dave Mustaine between the age of 17 to 25 years old. The title of the song is taken from the famous novel of the same name.

Winner: No Contest, Megadeth

If you haven't heard the System has Failed but think St. Anger HAS to be better, go out and buy The System has Failed before you make a retarded assumption.

Recently, Megadeth has released the Album United Abominations, which if you haven't picked it up I suggest as it is another great Megadeth CD. Metallica unfortunately, hasn't released anything as of late, but they are in the studio (if you didn't already know.) They were talking about how they're going back to their ...And Justice For All days which has many fans wondering just how it's going to sound. I just hope that it's not a combined effort of St. Anger and ..And Justice for all. But to be honest, from the clip i've heard, it sounds promising and it might out do United Abominations, until then that review is on hold however some tracks to consider off United Abominations

So Who's better? Honestly, who cares? They're both great bands, who have had great success, put out legendary music, and inspired many. I wrote this not to say one is better than the other, but to just point out a few facts, and to perhaps show Megadeth is worth listening to. It really doesn't matter any more because the feud is over (for the most part or for now). If you want my honest opinion, I think Megadeth is better hands down, but only because i've beena big fan of theirs for a while now. I do like Metallica a lot as well, but there's just something about Megadeth if that makes any sense. They are tied for the number one spot (as far as my fav bands are concerned) with GWAR.

But any who, you be the judge, if you disagree please tell me why. My opinion is not set in stone.

Thank you for Reading.

If I had to compare currently, Megadeth p'wns Metallica. I love the new Megadeth CD, but "Some Kind of Monster" was pure crap. But, older stuff, Metallica has a slight edge, to me.

In the end, DISTURBED KICKS BOTH THEIR ASSES (not really. KoRn. No, wait, did I mention Duran Duran?! CRAP!)

Megadeth wins, hands down!

Did anybody see "Some Kind of Moster?" All it did was show Metallica talking about thier feelings and crying like little fags. Will you see Megadeth make a stupid movie like that? Hell no, you fucking idiot! Megadeth is far too awesome to let anyone see them cry or talk about feelings. They just wanna play music that makes me want to punch somebody in the throat. I saw Megadeth last summer. It was fucking glorious!

Stupid Metallica. "...And Justice For All" was the only decent thing they ever put out.

Hell no, you fucking idiot! Megadeth is far too awesome to let anyone see them cry or talk about feelings. They just wanna play music that makes me want to punch somebody in the throat. I saw Megadeth last summer. It was fucking glorious!

Stupid Metallica. "...And Justice For All" was the only decent thing they ever put out.

mate the reason metallica is better is cause they don't have a whinning bitch as a singer the only place this fued exists is in your head
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You're right, however Metallica does have a whining bitch for a drummer, whom is (almost) entirely responsible for St. Anger and told people in interviews how he saw guitar solos as out of date. The feud only really does exist in all our heads and amongst fans, but to be honest I don't really care, but there are people that i've met, that go insane over the topic. But you're right, Dave Mustaine has a tendency to whine, but he also can be quite the asshole, and has had more feuds than just with Metallica alone. However, that doesn't make him any less of a great guitar player. And even Kerry King, (guitarist for Slayer) has stated he admires Dave Mustaine as a Musician but thinks he's a hypocrite as a person.

Great idea. Up until I read this I hadn't really rated Megadeth... I knew about the so called fued, but only from the Metallica point of view. I started listening to Metallica, but then moved onto the grunge scene, whilst mixing in some Slayer. Raining Blood was one of the first songs I learned on the guitar. But I also learned "One" at about the same time. I haven't seen any recent live stuff from Metallica, but in the early days clips you provided, it is clear the Metallica put on a better show. The energy level was much higher. Megadeth have a solid foundation though, but it seems as though they haven't grown at all in twenty years... I think there is no clear winner... Good post though my friend.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

yeah if you've ever read up on Nothing Else Matters (taken from Wikipedia)

"Singer and rhythm guitarist James Hetfield initially wrote it to a former girlfriend, but now he cannot remember why;[citation needed] some say it meant that "no matter how far" he was (since Metallica spent most of their time on tours), he was still "so close" with the heart. He considered it a very personal song and was not going to publish it, but once drummer Lars Ulrich heard it he wanted it on Metallica. Now Metallica consider it a song dedicated to all their fans. It has become a staple of their live performances."

um..... wow. +2 for sheer volume and I did actually read it. I would pick megadeth over metallica any day. Not a huge fan of either though I can appreciate songs from both but in the end metallica took "selling out" to a whole new level. In fact sell out bands that are particularly shitty about it shouldn't be called sell outs they should be called metallicas.

As a former musician the idea that someone shouldn't want to be paid really well to do the very thing they love the most never held water with me. the reason I go there with that band though is thier completely shitty attitude about themselves as a musicaly iconic entity. i can't spell so fuck off.

My point is, Metallica did what Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth have yet to do (all bands considered to be apart of the big 4 of thrash) and that is achieve a status that is iconic. In their own way, they're all Icons, however if you ask the average person on the street who they like better out of those 4 bands, they'll more than likely answer Metallica. Then they'll tell you they like Enter Sandman, which is why Metallica has that win over Countdown, and the only reason.

==============

Fair enough your 'average person' (I'm assuming you mean some daft cunt who knows fuck all about music) will say that Metallica are iconic, but I disagree. Their iconic status is based on shrewd marketing and publicity. Slayer are icons because they are savage as fuck and have put out some killer songs, regardless of commercial success. Anthrax are iconic because of their fusion of musical styles and again, making kick ass music regardless of commercial gain. Megadeth deserve icon status simply because Mustaine is one of the greatest musicians of all time.

The more I think about it, the more I hate Metallica for their greed and arrogance.

==============

Album sales and longevity ARE enough to make a band iconic though. They DO have more than just that though, I suppose. Before Metallica, a lot of people had never heard speed metal, grunge or metal. Metallica made those things at least a LITTLE more accessable for people. They did S&M, which was a huge thing for a harder band to do; others had done it before, but they were one of the first really big bands to get away with it. They've done other stuff beside being greedy; they do THAT pretty well sometimes too though...

I'll still take Megadeth over Metallica though. Where I live, its pretty rare to hear Metallica on the radio and when you do, its Enter Sandman or The Unforgiven. I've NEVER heard any Megadeth on the radio here...its the same in a lot of places, as well. They've done just as much (if not more) than Metallica and with less commercial exposure. Plus, I grew up listening to Megadeth, so I'm a bit partial.

Fucking awesome post, I am going to have to go buy more Megadeath albums. I have always been a huge Metallica fan. I can happily listen to all of their albums from beginning to end and be happy. I fucking hate St. Anger when it first came out and it sat collecting dust for a few months.

Then the guitarist in the band I used to play in, who also hated the album, started telling me he had been listening to and was enjoying it. If you can get past the fucking awful sounding drums it is a pretty sick album. Kirk Hammet doesn't do his wailing guitar solos but the albums is the most musically intricate of all their albums to date.

Great post.

Preist> Maiden is hard to argue.
They both had their share of cheesy metal songs but when you compare "rhyme of the ancient mariner" to "diamonds and rust", it is harder to pick a winner.

Number of the beast was great but it relied too much on the "scary" devil imagary to attract an audiance. it rocked, but you know...
Metal in and of itself walks a thin line between goofy and asskickery. That which makes it so good can make it look foolish.

Grim Reaper? anyone? yeah.

Besides Beavis and Butthead doing "Braking the law" probably edeged JP up just a notch.

It is a know fact, that before you can listen to "Ride the Lightning" you must import extra asses due to the sheer amount of ass that this album kicks.
Failure to do so will cause a deficit in unkicked asses in a several mile radius.

The Black album was too main stream, every unworthy tool knows Sandman. Metal needs the selective audiance to be metal. All albums that followed Black started to loose that edge.

Black Sabath>Judas Preist>Iron Maiden.

Indeed, Dave Mustaine is one of the greatest guitarists of our time, which is why whenever someone says he's mediocre and his solos are shit I cringe, but mostly because they obviously only heard Symphony of Destruction, but jack off to St. Anger each and every night. But you know, like I stated, the black album did wonders for them, which is the only reason it got the win. Musically, it's not near the caliber of Countdown.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know I know, I agree as well Countdown is definitely much MUCH better, however, you just have to give it to Metallica on that one. They took that album and made it what it is today, instead of just some average CD it became their break through into the mainstream. By Breakthrough into the main stream, i'm talking about bands and people that have made millions world wide. (though Megadeth has done the same) point is, they took something as simple as the Black Album and made it into a gigantic success. Countdown was also a success, but not in the same regards as the black album. Which is why I gave them that win, based on how revolutionary it was for them. My point is, Metallica did what Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth have yet to do (all bands considered to be apart of the big 4 of thrash) and that is achieve a status that is iconic.
