A couple of friends and I went into the city last night to see Muse with the Cold War Kids. Now, I didn't know much about the Cold War Kids, but I knew a 45 dollar ticket was well worth it. It turned out, it definitely was.
The Cold War Kids were very soulful, but didn't have even close to the same amount of energy compared to Muse.
Muse came in and opened up with Knights of Cydonia. They then quickly led into Map of the Problematique and Hysteria as their 2nd and 3rd song. Matt Bellamy showed his guitar prowess with some shredding and soloing between each song.
Their act lasted way longer than I expected. They played almost every song from Absolution (sans the last couple songs) and Black Holes and Revelations (sans Hoodoo and Assassin i believe). They also played a couple of their classics from Origin of Symmetry and Showbiz.
During the course of the show, the standing crowd threw one of the crowd surfers literally 15 feet into the air over the gates and security guards. He landed on stage and struck a pose for about 5 seconds before being dragged off.
Their "last" song was Plug In Baby where huge balloons filled with confetti were tossed around the huge amount of people. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iQmIVnvS64)
They then walked off stage before coming back to do an encore in which they played Unintended (Matt said it was the first time they played this song in the US), Stockholm Syndrome (included a 3 minute outro where the band just started jamming: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOas17F9h24), and Take a Bow.
It was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
Did anyone else go? What was that touch pad thing Matt Bellamy had on his guitar?

Saw them here in the UK a few years ago, they did the same confetti filled balloons thing. Certainly one of my favourite bands.
Matt has a "Wah wah" pedal and I believe also a... forget the name.... made by digitech.... slides notes up and down! - Bugger - but one of those pedals fitted into his guitars. He has the controls on a touchpad on his guitar- cool huh! - he doesn't actually touch it, it works by waving his hand back and forth about half an inch over it. Think I recall it being a magnetic device. - Read about it in Total Guitar.
I want one.

Apparently its called a "Kaoss" Pad. There are videos on youtube of people messing with it.

I was listening to Matt Bellamy on triple j and he was explaining why Muse chose not to be part of Live Earth. He said it was kind of hypocritical to take private jets to a benifit gig about global warming (LOOKING AT YOU CHILI PEPPERS). Did they play Stockholm Syndrome?

Muse and Cold War Kids? Man band names are getting faggier. What happened to the Rush's, Stone Temple Pilots and Super Tramps of the world?

Muse played at Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday. Apparently the show was awesome.
I didn't go on... I went on Sunday so I could see Pearl Jam.

So was Rage at Randall's Island, though.

I fucking love Muse. 'New Born' is probably my favouritist song in the whole wide world.

I was surprised they played a lot of their older stuff as well: New Born, Plug In Baby, Feeling Good, Unintended, Sunburn, etc
