He walks past the Scotmid Co-operative every day. Through the car park on the way home, at the bottom of Leith Walk next to Water World. If the doors to Water World are open, a blast of humid air always meets him. It smells of chlorine and disinfectant. There are white spots of chewing gum on the tarmac. Each piece is individual. The speed of ejection, angle, velocity, brand, even flavour? Each is a choice. There is bird shit on the ground as well. Seagulls live nearby. Billions of years of natural choice, selection. Was life carbon based or not? All this just for a white splat on the ground. Someone had fed the birds. Well that's the only explanation - there were yellow lentils and rice on the ground. It was in a place where it couldn't have been dropped by accident. But who the fuck feeds lentils to birds? Each lentil, upon closer examination, is scratched and pitted. This depends on the manner they are processed. In the south of India, they are dry processed. In the north, where it is wetter, they have the luxury of wet processing. This forms a superior product. To the western eye this difference is wasted. To him it wasn't. These were northern lentils.

There is a hedge further along the carpark. It obviously used to be one type of plant but now there are thorny red branches trying to take over. The wall behind the dilapidated hedge is made of stone. Hewn from a local quarry. The red sand stone gives it away. As ancient as the landscape that once was a tropical jungle, then a desert then a rain soaked temperate grassland. When did that ridge develop? That split the island from the mainland. That was caused by an earthquake that had its beginnings in some kind of other beginning.

We are all affected by our environment. Duh. But to what extent? This man in question walks through life like a four year old who has seen a potty for the first time, he is a late developer.

A better title would have been "A Day in the Life of TTOM Through the Eyes of a Secret Admirer."

Well, it's the average of your ratings, so your total rating will always fall between -2 and +2, it's the worst/best you can do.

i was sure that it only registered your first vote. this was to prevent giving someone's post loads of -2's and bringing it down.

I saw a comment from you elsewhere- your rating of a given post is the average of all the ratings you give it.

See? 1.5.

You have some good imagery here.

Homer: I'm just a big fool.

Karl: Oh no, you're not!

Homer: How do you know?

Karl: Because my mother taught me never to kiss a fool!
