Bart yawned as he tried for the third time that morning, to open his eyes. The intense sunlight was pushing its way through the blinds and he could hear the traffic roaring down in the streets below.
"Time to get to work" he muttered as he dragged his way to the bathroom. For the winning look today, he needed to do something to his face. He looked awful. Grabbing his razor he dragged it across his face using the method that his father Tom had taught him; sweeping up whilst holding his skin taut.. "rowr" he growled at himself in the mirror like a tiger. Lily, his ex wife, used to hate it when he did that. Fuck her. She was crap. Ollo, her new man appreciated her more than he ever would have.
He pulled on his clothes and looked at his watch. He had to get speed up if he was to get to the office. He remembered the words from his colleague "Officer Stevie says get to work in time for the donuts!" The door slammed as he ran out the door; bumping into his (very sexy) neighbour Anansie. She smiled at him as he ran past her, but as he left she frowned. She worried about the detective who lived upstairs. He was so badass. Julie, her roommate, told her she was worried about nothing but what did she know? She sat and read the Beano comic all day.
Ten o'clock sharp, Detective Bart Blinkish pushed his way into the busy station. Only one head popped up at his entrance "Captain", Thorns acknowledged and went back to his computer. "Mornin' all" sighed Bart, grabbing a donut and bustling his way to his desk. So what's on today, Thorns? Is that prostitute Caula in court at twelve? Officer Thorns shuffled the paperwork on the untidy desk... "yeah, her and that Cindy are back in again". You going?
Detective Blinkish finished the last of the pink frosted donut. "Nope, I'm on the Coleslaw Murphy case. He leaned over to the desk beside him where Officers Circe and Coley were working diligently. "Hey - give us a cookie lass" he called to Coley. She slid the packet towards him as he helped himself to a handful, much to her disdain.
"Actually", Thorns said "There was another shoot out last night that we have to get to. Didn't you hear? Two officers were shot and one died. Some cracked out caligrapher was on the rampage and tried to steal the Coyote crystal diamond from the museum, last night just after dark. Oh, and he left a message for you".
Bart went cold. He hated it when nutters like this got personal.
Ten minutes later, Thorns and Bart were in the car, Bart stretching the seatbelt over his enormous stomach. "This really is the mission impossible I reckon", he frowned. "So, give me the run down while we drive there".
Thorns started the engine. Well, this calligrapher guy, Ebloa, may have been carrying out some experiment at his house; either way, he caused a huge fire. Flying from his apartment, he hooked up with the notorious professor John Fey at the museum and they must have had with them - what they thought - was a foolproof plan to steal the diamond together. Someone on the inside must've called the cops, cause they were there in minutes. "What about this note for me though?" Bart said. "Well", Thorns continued "a forensic girl with the team there found a note. I hate to tell you this but....well.....it was folded and shoved up the anus of the officer that died. The note was marked to you".

Half an hour later, Bart and Thorns arrived at the scene; police tape was everywhere, along with the press. Reporter Jeaneee, along with her photographer, Joey, greeted them immediately. "What's the low down guys?" Jeannee shouted at them. "No comment" Bart growled, as they made their way to the building.
"So what the hell did this little monster put on the note them? Where the fuck is it?" Bart barked at the forensic team. They handed him a piece of paper in a plastic bag. "Careful, with it please, sir" said the forensic chap John Lung, fishing it out of the box of collected evidence.
Bart looked at the crumpled note.
"We have Leilani . If you want to see her alive, be at the library at six, tonight" was printed in crooked writing.
Bart sat down heavily. Not Leilani. Not his beautiful daughter he'd had with her manic mother and his ex wife of five years, Lily. He held back the tears and his heart blackened with rage. He would have to sort out this fucking mess. Mind you, he knew he had his loyal friend Thorns to help him. Ebola and that professor fuckface were about to stare death in the face.

It was getting on for five o'clock when they left the museum; the red skies would have looked pretty, if they hadn't been distracted with the job they had to do.
Bart gunned the engine and they shot off to find the scourge, that beast that was called Ebola. He had been a cop. A silent renegade now, he was in with the fuckers of the underworld. He drove along, his face grim. Thorns kept as silent as the siren that was turned off. Bart knew the library was a set up. He knew where to find the ex bastard cop. He knew the docks were where he did all his dodgy deals.
As they drove into the dark and quiet docks, Bart tensed and took his pistol out of the glove box. Thorns loaded his quickly and they parked by a skrapmetal yard.
Leaving the doors slightly open they crept in the darkness by the boats. 'Pamela' and 'Sunny G' were large boats, sat side by side and kept their cover well. They heard voices....

Professor Fey, Ebola and his girlfriend Susie Derkins were alone with the girl. She had been quiet, no trouble at all, although she looked terrified. "Right", Ebola rasped, "The Drake will finish off that fucker Bart who had me kicked off the force - meanwhile I'll deal with this pretty little thing". He stroked the child's face and smiled at her. She flinched but said nothing.
Susie sat looking worried. She'd never meant to get involved in this. She had no idea how much Ebola had lost his mind. She started to go to the girl, to try and comfort her but as she stood she heard an enormous BANG and threw herself to the floor.

The police sirens filled the air as Detectives Thorpe and Jack walked over to a big man sitting holding a little girl. "You okay, sir?" he asked gently. "Such viciousness, sick bastards. We've got them now."
Yeah. Yeah.... I'll be okay said Bart wearily. Thank god he's not on the loose anymore. If anything had happened to my daughter...." He broke off, tears shining in his eyes. "Come on sir" said detective Jack, "your ex wife is here for Leilani". You look like you need a drink.
Bart sighed and stood, brushing his clothes. Hell yeah. Right now, I'd love a whiskey, Jack.
