Time seems to stand still out there. No signs of life. The trees look like they're just there because they have to be. The playground is frozen. The town is empty. No signs of force. Silent.

I'm pretty sure this place used to be a coal mining town. The old mines are closed off pretty much everywhere, but you could get in if you felt like it. It seems like everybody just left one day, and didn't take anything with them. It's fairly creepy. You just get the feeling that there should be people around. There should be children running and playing. There should be a cat sleeping on a front porch. None of this really makes sense.

I went in once. Just to see what it was like. There are no barriers to keep people out. There is no chain link fence with barbed wire atop. No warning signs. No keep out signs. I guess that must be so it doesn't stand out or pique anyone's interest. Nothing out of the ordinary but it feels like there should be. At least it'd explain something.

A bike path runs through the town. That's how I found it. I even stopped at the bench by a cabbage patch. The whole town smells like cabbage. It could be in a horror movie. I mean the good kind of horror movies, which focused on actual horror more than on gore. It's that creepy.

The strange part about all of this, is that it isn't fiction. I really wish it was.

It's really like this, but without the train or the mountains but with a bike trail and more trees..jpg (49 kB)

This picture looks like a picture of a model. Like from a model train village.

Ghost towns kick ass, and there is nothing creepier than an empty play ground with the swings moving slowly in the breeze.

is that in AZ? That looks very familiar, if it's not the same one I've been to one just like it. I've also been to several tin and lumber ghost towns in the black hills of SD. always cool to explore.

Couldn't agree more.

way back when, a small group of us used to go to all the ghost towns in Cali to basically loot and dismember them piece by piece...inc the cars(Ford Model T's)
there were hundreds of them back in the 60's and early 70's

but then the "big boys" got involved with their fucking helicopters and double flat-beds and generally fucked it up for everyone

you should'a seen Bodie, BEFORE, they ran us off

and Masonic and Wild Rose and and and etc

Damn good times
Damn good

I take a knife with me when I go through.

In every horror movie, nobody grabs the appropriate equipment. When a guy in the theatre yells "Run bitch, run!" it means they should have noticed what was wrong long before some random asshole interrupted my moviegoing experience.
