This is the first and final call for entrants to sign up for Uber-Go-Round 2007 © ® ™.
I'll run through the rules of this competition shortly but if you aren't familiar with it you can go here: http://www.ubersite.com/u/Brdn_Nkd/l/uber-go-round_2006, to see examples of the stories and how it all went down.
Done? Good. Here we go then. I tend to need a little prompting of late in order to actually write a story. Why that is I have no idea but it is what it is, a pain in the ass. In that vein and in an effort to generate some new stories for me to read while pissing my day away at work I'd like to see what kind of interest there is in doing a bracketed competition. Sign up here, as in please state "I would like to play" or something to that effect.
Next, we'll need title suggestions. All titles for this contest will be randomly drawn and assigned to the competing pairs. In addition to a title every group of contestants will be trying to write based on that title within an assigned genre, also randomly chosen, ie. Romance, comedy, action, western, you get the idea. A side note here, entries can certainly also be poems, pictures or whatever the fuck floats your boat as long as it fits the title and genre.
As always drive by -2 or I hate you ratings are a concern in determining the outcome of each particular contest. I'm open to suggestions on how to deal with determining the winner. The two thoughts I have, short of soliciting Bart to provide us the ability to submit anonymously, would be to just deal with them and go with the flat rating/# reviews without modification or to do a summary/voting post after each round so that people have to vote for an entry.

Ubertines (never did get round to labeling these)
had to adjust ratings that would have affected the outcome of the contest and so I lean toward going with the ratings/#reviews to decide rounds without modification.

Some of your titles are piss poor.
Why go to the trouble of a contest and not give a little more thought to good titles?
A better way to go would be to provide a genre and a subject, and let the entrants choose their title.
Uber contests seem to have a lot of shit titles, from what I've observed.

actually i agree O friday deadlines sometimes leave posts with not as many ratings to boost it. though......the deadline is the latest you can post, doesn't mean you have to wait that long.

I think it's easier to have posts due somewhere at the start of the week, that way people have time to read/review them and you've got time to post the next round's pairings before Friday.

Suggestion- Only us drunken riffraff are usually here over the weekend. Tons of GPFs go up on Fridays, and if people don't review that day, it might result in posts getting bumped quickly or spammed over the weekend. Another weekday would work better. Thoughts?

Fey - just to make sure the intent isn't taken wrong. My comment has MUCH more to do with thie epistolory contest than with who made the suggestion.
(in other words, I have nothing against you, and I'm glad to see someone trying to figure out a way around Uber's issues, I just think that contest was not a good one)

I don't particularly like that idea either. some of it is selfishie that sounds like an assload of work with 28 contestants signed up and some of it is that then each post knocks the prior off the front page. it's not like fiction needs help being ignored, let's give it every chance to bee seen.
besides like i said, only one time did adjusting the ratings affect the outcome so I'm just not going to.

Brdn_Nkd (Bored and Naked?) - With the epistolary contest, the entries were posted back to back by the person who held the competition, so that they were anonymous. It'd save people being judged by their names and prevent haterates, at least to a certain degree. If you don't want the potential impact on your average rating, create/borrow an alter.
