Why are they still calling it a "Rescue Mission" or "Rescue Attempt"? They are dead. Give it up. Stop giving their children and loved ones hope and let them start the greiving process already. I don't care if it was my best friend in that mine, after 72 hours all hope is lost.
When you get down to it, they are torturing the friends/family involved in this accident. Just say they are dead and give a nice settlement to all parties involved and let them start their lives again.

Fat jokes really miss the essential point here. People have been found alive in situations like this after two weeks; it's at least possible to find them for at least that long. That's a lot longer than 72 hours.
