I can't go to sleep because CNN is broadcasting "God's warriors".
The first 2 hours were about muslim fundamentalists. Then the reporter switched to the christian fundamentalists in the USA and how a few loud mouths (Falwell and some others) managed to use christians as a political movement choosing the recent presidents. I was impressed by the reporter and her line of thougths. Really interesting.
In the end, I think I am more afraid of the American fundamentalist christians then the muslims.
WTF happened in the last 40 years in america? Did everyone go dumb? How could they forget how hard it was to get rid of religious tyrans?
The worse thing is, atheists and agnostics do not unite, do not try to convert people from faith to doubt, reason and science. Heck, we're the most pacifist group of all. We are all isolated from one another because we don't need to and want to... yet.
On the pretext of religious tolerance and political correctness, we let religious nuts convert dumb people freely, instead of instutionalizing them as nutcases in a sanitarium and making weird NAZI medical experiments on them.
Here is my fantasy... an agnostic leader that will unite us. A Tyler Durden.
We might need to get one in the near future, when we wake up in a society where our children are forced to go to some church and pray and believe in nonsense superstitions, because if they don't, they will be shunned or punished by family or school.
So we will go back to a few crooked religious leaders that control a crowd of devouts that then control their immediat social environment by forcing the non-believers to choose between hypocrisy (faking faith) or being put aside and ignored, or worse, violated in some way.
we need something like the "Xtreme Agnostic Church" - (using Xtreme for marketing purposes)
Fundamentalists use religion as a weapon to attack non-believers in various ways. TO counter balance them, the "Xtreme Agnostic Church" preaches retribution against violent religious creeds. Something in the line of: "For each act of terror or abuse of power or major display of faith in the medias, the "Xtreme Agnostic Church" elite task forces will kill one of the great religions leader and destroy a sacred historical icon".
The "Xtreme Agnostic Church" should also use falwell's tactics to counter the religious votes and give the positions of power and the supreme court back to atheists.
The "Xtreme Agnostic Church" will promote religious intolerance... in the form that any public demonstration of faith of any kind (including wearing traditional garments) should be punished by law. The punishment is a choice given to the accused: choose between 1-)death by execution or 2-) frequent public demonstrations of agnostism by drinking booze in abusive quantities, having anal sex with 3 strangers at the same time and burning religious texts while swearing and eating bacon.
Of course, the "Xtreme Agnostic Church" will want to pass a law requiring to convert any historical religious building into a brothel or bar.
That should shut them up for good.
Seriously, I am a bit scared to see so many people believing in such stupid superstitions and acting on these beliefs.
People don't use empirism, induction, hypothesis, experimentation and deduction to diffentiate false from truth. Nope... most people use their "feeling" inside to decide what is true. Shit, if feelings were the measurement of truth, then Santa Claus would exist. What does our feeling have anything to do with something being true or not? The answer is: Nothing. Why? cause all of us, at one point in our life, realised something we were certain to be true in our gut feeling to be false. It's always a shock too.
Then, the logical next step is... if I can be wrong about stuff, I might be wrong about God too! Maybe this Coran or Bible is bullshit after all!
Final point, if God wanted to communicate to us moral imperatives, would he use pedophiles in black dresses with a white collar? or sodomites with big beards wearing a turban? Nah, he'd speak to you directly in your head, like he does with me everyday!
Being tolerant somewhat paradoxal, because you must tolerate the intolerants. I don't know if I can anymore.

"In the end, I think I am more afraid of the American fundamentalist christians then the muslims."
That is because you are an idiot.
Every infringment on your rights that you imagine is caused by fundamental christians is supported by fundamental muslims.
If you think you are more limited by christian extremists than muslim ones try drawing a picture of mohammed and jesus in a bad way and see which one is called art and which is called a crime. Try throwing a bible and a koran in the toilet and see which one is part of freedom of expression and which one is a hate crime.
I don't like extremists on either end but until you can point me to a christian movement that has killed hundreds (in recent times), or a christian country where teaching other religions can get you killed, or a christian movement with millions that believe converting away or mocking of jesus should be punished by death then I will be more concerned about muslims.

Unfortunately, people don't get excited by the truth. The get excited by answers and action, and they rally around extremists who claim to have all the answers. Everyone wants a simple solution, especially the weak minded, because the truth is always too hard to face.
What good would the world be if we were always at peace? Fundamentalists cause wars which make cable news all that much more entertaining.

No we don't. By Calling your group a church, you are instantly grouping yourself alongside the people you are waging your little secular Jihad against. 'Agnostic church' is a bit oxymoronic, no? That, and I want to strangle to fuck out of whatever marketing geniuses that decided that every product on the market needs an 'X' in it.

So, you think that not only should this 'Agnostic church' use violence to counter violence, you also think that when someone else displays beliefs counter to your own, we should execute someone?

yeah, let's use Falwell's tactics, that guy was fan-fucking-tastic. The only reason people followed Falwell is because they were idiots. There is a marginally lower ratio of idiocy in the atheist/agnostic camp. Not to mention that I seriously doubt that you have the charisma needed to get anyone to see you as a leader.
And when was the Supreme court ever in the hands of atheists?

I'm not even going to bother breaking this down anymore.
To summarize; You think that the torture, rape, murder, and other atrocities performed in the name of religion over the last couple centuries is appalling; and so your answer to this is to show them that those of us that aren't religious can be much, much worse then they are. You think that since they do what they do because "God" or "Allah" told them to do it, it's wrong; but since you don't believe in a higher power it's justifiable for you to do the same thing, and using their tactics no less. Your level of hypocrisy is almost as bad, if not worse, than the people you're trying to wage this little theistic battle against.
You should leave social reform to someone that didn't just watch Fight Club while getting high with their friends, saying "Dude, we should totally kill everyone that believes in God. They all suck."
Don't be surprised when no one writes in to get their "Xtreme Agnostic Church" Decoder rings.

If you're going to suggest a movement headed by agnosticism, you should at the very least understand what it is, and also what it isn't. It's evident here that you don't. The very nature of agnosticism is that it's NOT an extreme, and you'll never unite all agnostics because their personal attitudes toward religion is greatly varied. Tongue in cheek as this may be, it's terribly written.

well...
the ridiculous part is there because its a FANTASY (ie sumtin impossible, exagerrated or ridiculous)... sumtin my tired brain of yesterday thougth up as a parody of religious extremist practices.
Don't take me too seriously please. I was not writing a serious essay here. I just wanted to go to sleep and it worked. After writing this, I slept fast and well.
So, what do you propose atheists and agnostics do to protect the relative security and freedom we enjoyed? I have no idea how, cause we are all selfish assholes usually and dont wanna follow a leader.

Mentally ill leadership fuckin' ROCKS!
Minus two for being stupid and not dead.
