Chapter One: http://www.ubersite.com/m/111287
Chapter Two: The Third World War
In 2028, the Alexein Empire's forces were reorganized into three armies of sixteen divisions, aiding the mobility of the forces. In ten short years, Alexei Petrokov had gone from a small collectivist state in southern Russia to a large Eastern European empire. Recognizing the need for an heir, he married Olivia Horowitz in June 2028, who would later bear his only child.
In the late 2020s and early 2030s, NATO and the EU were suspicious of Alexei. He had expanded far quicker than the West had expected, and like the aid given to Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden in the past, the aid given to Alexei was backfiring. In a 2031 meeting between the Vice President of the United States, Griffin James, and the Chairman of the European Union, the former said, "We may seriously need to consider an option of war should Alexei's aims be contrary to our own."
Meanwhile, Alexei was mopping up the last hardliner Federalists in Kuybyshev and Yekaterinburg, and his people were enjoying unrivaled prosperity. It was seen as a noble thing to join the military in defense of the individual rights of the people. In Siberia, the Federalist Russians were inviting Americans over to Kamchatka to help organize their government-in-exile.
Alexei was now speaking out against injustice in America and Europe, to the dismay of the leaders of the West. In America, discrimination against the poor was high, and the rich outnumbered the middle class and people in poverty by a huge margin. The same was true in Europe, where the poor were blamed for their own indigence. Propaganda on both sides demonized the enemy, but the borders remained open into the Russian Empire.
In 2029, Alexei had his first son, Alexei the second, at the age of forty years. He was growing up as a figure of cultish adoration among the people of his father's empire. His mother mainly raised him, though Alexei wrote a best-selling book on parenting in his later life based off of his experiences with Alexei Jr., that sold well even on the New York Times list.
The American presidential elections of 2032 elected Griffin James as the forty-ninth President of the United States. As one of his final acts before leaving office, President Adam Lazarro created the Western Alliance against Alexei, formerly known as CENTCOM. In Scandinavia, the countries of the north created the Northern Alliance, similarly known as NORCOM. Under the joint command of the Presidents of the USA, the EU, Sweden, Germany, and Poland, the Alliances began to mobilize their main forces in 2033.
Alexei was not blind to these proceedings, and began to muster his own huge force in preparation for the oncoming war. However, though the years 2033 and 2034 were full of tension between the two opposing sides, there was uncommon peace and happiness in Alexei's empire. Alexei enjoyed his son and wife in private life, often being seen walking through parks, surrounded by a large bodyguard.
In 2034, the campaign drive for recruits in the US Army came to a head, and the vast force of troops departed for Germany and Poland. It was depicted in the US media as a war just like the old wars, against a communist Russia. Meanwhile, Alexei took control of the city-states of St. Petersburg, Archangelsk, and Murmansk, expanding his influence to the north, from the Black Sea to the Arctic Ocean. In the summer of 2035, the final moments of peace were shared by a fearful world. In July 2035, the Allies moved into position on the Polish border.
It would be helpful at this time to go over the orders of battle for both sides. Maps of the fighting can be found in the index. The Western Alliance and Northern Alliance (CENTCOM and NORCOM) were in direct opposition to Alexei's Army Group A and Army Group B, respectively.

Total Russian forces: 415000 men, plus heavy air support, minor naval support, medical units, logistic and auxiliary divisions, and specialized Spetsnaz brigades.
It seems at first glance that CENTCOM and NORCOM had far stronger forces both in capacity of units and in the military technology they wielded. In the weeks before the invasion, specialized hacker squads took down web servers all across Alexei's Russia, and used EMP artillery and aerial strikes to bring down power structures. As of the fifteenth of July, 2035, the two sides were in a state of war.
For roughly one month, the battles were fought mostly in the sky above Belarus and the Baltic. Highly practiced Russian airmen defended their homeland with American and Israeli jets, while half-tracks and anti-air guns worked to bring down the fighters on both sides. Bombing raids for both sides were generally unsuccessful, with the Surface-Air-Missile defense defending both sides.
However, even though both sides had anti-air and SAM technology, the defense wasn't perfect. Minsk , Riga, Smolensk, Lublin and Kiev were all shelled brutally with artillery and cruise missiles, and the military casualties amounted to roughly three thousand on both sides. Civilians dead numbered around fifteen thousand. Due to the stated goals of simply removing Alexei for power and replacing the Federal regime, the Allies were restrained in their bombardment. Unlike the second World War, carpet bombing was rarely utilized. Similarly, Alexei wanted the people of Eastern Europe to see how superior Universality was, and treated civilians and captured POWs with care and mercy.
With 47 divisions versus 18 Russian ones, and the ratio of troops roughly 2:3, the forces lined up along the old Russian border. August 14th, 2035, at 0400 was H-hour for the invasion. Under American General Anthony Jefferson, CENTCOM advanced on all fronts, and met the Russians at all sides.
In then north in Latvia, the Marines advanced with the German II Corps and the Polish Armed Forces, and met the tanks and rifles of the Russian prepared positions. Alexei, along with Generals Zukhov and Ilyanich, had made an elaborate system of trenches along the hundreds-of-miles-long front guarded by dragon's teeth, pillboxes, bunkers, tank traps, and barbed wire. Farther south in Lithuania and Belarus, the French and British forces, along with the US V Corps, met the elite 1st Motorized Infantry, the most battle-hardened unit in the entire Russian army.
The US VII Corps advanced in northern Ukraine, with the 82nd Airborne making a supremely unsuccessful airdrop behind enemy lines. The Ukrainian forces attacked unsuccessfully also, many of their men falling in rows before the tanks and machine guns of the Russians. Farther up north, the battle was fought in a stalemate between NORCOM and Army Group B.
The Marines pushed north, but it seemed that only they were making any notable advance. In many parts of the line, by mid-September, the fighting had denigrated into trench warfare reminiscent of the first World War. The Americans bloodied themselves with futile attacks, and on the other side, the Russians had to defend themselves on all sides. In Alexei's favor, the Ukrainian troops were poorly-equipped, and began to fall back past the border. In a 12-hour gunbattle around Donetsk on October 21st, the 2nd Tank Division and 7th Motorized Rifles seized the city.
In early November, the 6th Marine Regiment along with German Special Operations teams pushed up toward north Estonia, where heavy fighting took place, that now legendary in Marine Corps history as the Battle of Talinn. It is at this battle that Rusty the Dachsund along with his owner Michael Whitmer received a Medal of Honor taking a hundred Russian prisoners. Michael was killed by friendly fire shortly after, shot three times by Francis Banks, who would later become congressman for Louisiana.
The Marines advanced bravely toward the outskirts of Saint Petersburg, but the threat of a double envelopment by Army Group B forced them to withdraw. With the Marines defeated and the US V Corps held back with Russia's elite forces, Alexei unleashed a massive aerial and artillery bombardment of Kiev, and swung his 2nd Army down toward the Crime and central Ukraine. The Ukrainian Army fell back, enveloped and destroyed.
CENTCOM moved the reserve I Eurocorps up, as well as the III Eurocorps from France. General Jefferson frantically shifted the US VII Corps south toward Kiev, but not before the Russians advanced deep into neutral EU territory. While the French III Corps took up stations in Transylvania, the Russians advanced to Bucharest, but were stalled by the French and Americans in the Carpathian and Ruthenian mountains.
However, Alexei's bold move had been a success. His dangerous advance deep along the Black Sea had thrown panic into the allies, and all of Europe braced against the oncoming attack. In the north, NORCOM was pushed further and further back, so that Helsinki and the Finnish lands fell before Alexei. The Marines were moved to strengthen the defense of Kiev, so the Russians began to advance through the Baltic region. NORCOM was pushed further and further back; meanwhile fighting was breaking out all through Belarus and the Ukraine, the Americans holding their own and keeping the line stable against the Russian counterattack. The Germans, Polish, Russian, and British allies fought bravely, while the Spanish and Dutch soldiers served in reserve back toward Poland.
The winter of 2036 was a tough one for both sides, and unfortunately for the allies, they were forced to abandon key territories such as Vilnius and Minsk. In the freezing temperatures, NORCOM was pushed back to Sweden and Norway, and by the time the snows thawed, all of Scandinavia was under Russian control. The 3rd EU Army was moved up to the Danish border to defend against the Russian Army Group B. Air combat was now prevalent on all sides with the changing borders, and the Europeans and Americans used heavy helicopter squadrons to slaughter the advancing Russians in a desperate rearguard action.
The allies still controlled the seas, but now the only ones to challenge Russian air superiority were the Americans. The skies were lit up over Warsaw with fighter planes and bombers at night, and the Russians pushed further into Eastern Europe. In some places they were greeted by praise and applause, in others by open rebellion. Across the Pinsk marshes around Pripyet, the small peasant villages were filled up by machine gun fire and grenades, as the Americans and French fell back into Poland.
It was now being asked if this war could even be won. In Britain and Germany, people were beginning to tire of war, and in America, anti-war protests disturbed President Griffin James. In May and June, protestors in Washington DC were shot as they invaded the lawn of the White House. Their blood ran into the Rose Garden. The American military was having difficulty recruiting soldiers. Conversely, the Russians began to gather more forces as the Eastern European civilians flocked to the banner of Alexei. In the summer, the entire Transcaucus, even the stalwart Chechnyans, agreed to be annexed into Universality.
It was around the autumn of 2037 that a cult of personality began around Alexei. Where before he had simply been a charismatic young leader, now that he was growing into middle age, his supporters had began to acclaim him to an almost god-like status. Alexei made it his goal to be seen by every citizen of his empire, and even as he planned troop movements and logistics, he traveled around his country giving speeches and meeting municipal courts. By the end of his life, he would have passed Saint John Paul II as the human being most other people had personally seen. The name Alexei was made a salute, and the flag of Alexei's Empire and Universalitya heart with a dagger through it resting on a red X and a white background, encircled by a union of blue stars, simplified to just the heart on the red xwas prayed to by schoolchildren every day.
The invasion of Poland occurred on March 3rd, 2038. The Russian army poured across the border, driving the Europeans and Americans past Warsaw. The Spanish and Belgian soldiers fought bravely in defense of the capital city, while the Americans battled at Lodz and Krakow; both were forced back into Silesia and Pomerania.
Elements of the Russian 3rd Army now assaulted Czechoslovakia, and in what may have been the West's finest hour since Thermopylae, a coalition of British and American soldiers defended the city of Prague for two weeks before being utterly crushed by Alexei's men. Forty thousand American and British prisoners were transferred to concentration camps behind the lines, where aside from medical experiments, they were treated mostly with strict fairness.
The subduing of Poland took several months of coming down harsh on the insurgents. By April 2039, the final stages of the war were about to be completed. The Russians poured across the border, held back but barely by the Americans, British, and Germans. In six weeks of fighting, CENTCOM was pushed into the Ruhr Valley with tremendous casualties. The number of Americans dead had now reached fifty thousand. President Griffin James could not allow the US to be withdrawn from the war, and on all fronts, even down in Austria and around Slovakia, the allies fought bravely but were defeated. In Hamburg, the 3rd EU Army was defeated, and then a novel and frightening diplomatic error occurred.
The President of the USA ordered Alexei to halt his attack under penalty of nuclear warheads falling on Moscow and Berlin. The outcry was amazing all over the world, both from the allies and from the Russians. Alexei exploited this request as propaganda for Universality, labeling the capitalist West barbarians. However, Alexei slowed down his attack, and stopped in Germany.
The Treaty of Jemappes was signed, officially annexing Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Eastern Europe, and Romania into the Universalite Empire, and giving the Empire economic control over Belgium, Holland, and Luxembourg. In the Treaty, the West and the Empire promised to ban use of nuclear weapons in the war, and Alexei promised to cease all hostility against the west. For a long time, the two sides would keep to their words.
The war was over on January 23rd, 2040, and President Griffin was disgraced the world over, while Alexei was praised as a benevolent conqueror whose philosophy of Universality elevated the human spirit. The US 7th Army was moved into Paris, along with the remainder of the shattered army of the European Union. France began to make agreements with Russia, and began to adopt Universalite structures of government.
In October of 2040, Alex turned fifty-one years old. He had conquered the kind of empire of which no other empire since Hitler had been able to, but he preferred to think of himself like Napoleon, a kind and wise semi-autocratic dictator. His people loved him, his enemies feared and respected him, and his system worked. The Spetsnaz were under his personal command, and he founded the Black Eagles to ensure domestic tranquility in his people. The war was over, and for a long time, there would be peace.
As 2040 ended, Alexei's empire stretched from Amsterdam to the Ural Mountains, and from the tip of Norway all the way down to the Danube River.

Better. I laughed at the Lousiana Congressman jab.
I also think China would become more heavily involved at this point. Also, what happened to the UN? Maybe I missed it.

So far, so good.
Pleae remove the Kerry/Bush legend, it bothers me.
I agree that China would probably just sit back if the U.S. and Russia got into a long, costly struggle. They'd covertly aide both sides and then attack the winner after he's all tired and such.
Oh, and WTF?!? BBQ1!! JESUS WULD NEVR LET TEH U.S. LUZE?1!? AMERICA FUCK YA!!1

And if you think we won't use nuclear weapons to defend our continental territory - that's ridiculous.
----------
Don't worry, we'll be getting to that point in the later chapters...after taking up all the world except for the Americas, Russia has to expand somewhere...

Thanks for the comments and criticism.
ChaosJester - After the fear of the cold war, I don't think any party wishes to resort to nuclear weapons. Just as a small spoiler, nuclear weapons will (probably) not be used except as a threat in this story. I say probably since I haven't 100% decided the ending. America is still a major player in the alliances but the EU is the leader as they're defending their homeands.

you know I love this type of stuff, but I have issues.
It actually was standard doctrine for the use of tactical nuclear weapons in the event of a large-scale armoved invasion of Western Europe - it was never admitted to for political reasons, but the Americans would for sure drop the Bomb if ther Russians came ripping through Germany.
Also, the state of Russian troops is absolutely deplorable nowadays, and will be for some time to come. Check out how the Russians have had their asses handed to them by the Chechens it their 2 wars.
And if you think we won't use nuclear weapons to defend our continental territory - that's ridiculous.

Tanks, rifles, planes--the things we've fought wars with since the 1910s. We've gotten a few upgrades and cooler weapons, but the basic idea is the same. Tanks rifles and planes is what we're fighting WWIII with.

China is unable to take pieces of land, since Old Russia (the Russia we have circa 2007) is still alive and well, albeit cripples, in Siberia and the east. However, you can see that America and Canada have stakes around Kamchatka in Magadan.
Thanks for your input though

Very well done, but I personnaly think that the Nuclear option would have been resorted to far earlier in the game and with much less drama leading up to it.
In this future history, it seems that the Americans are calling the shots. A simple fact about American culture is that we do NOT like to be beaten. If WWIII had been going as bad as you make it sound, the American Strategic policy would have undoubtedly resorted to tactical nuclear strikes on confirmed military targets at the very least. You don't have to annihilate civilian population centers to cripple your enemy.
Also, what the hell is China doing right now. At this point in time, barring some catastrophic event that brings the Chinese to their military and political knees, there is no way in hell that they would be sitting on the sidelines with their thumbs up their asses. At the very least, they'd be taking advantage of the chaos and snatching up bits of land the size small countries.
In any event, color me impressed. You've obviously worked really hard on this. Good on you.
