Its 09.40am on a Sunday and I just came in from the garden.
I had the Cat Stevens version of Morning Has Broken playing loudly (probably too loudly for any lazy neighbours) and I was sitting cross legged on one of the benches in my shorts with a huge mug of tea, humming away to myself.
I felt so overjoyed with everything I wanted to write it down.
As I was sitting there a sparrow and a coal tit fluttered their way over to the bird feeder - it was only just by me but they were unperturbed by the presence of myself or even one of my cats, Bill, who was lounging in the sun at my feet.
Today is beautiful. As in the words 'morning has broken, like the first morning' it felt just like that.
Happiness is not being smarter or getting one up on someone. Happiness not money or wearing designer clothes
Happiness is the amazing, colourful, fresh, beautiful planet that we live on; be it for a long time or mere days.
I hope that (although this may well be read with cynicism and derision) there are loads of you out there in different countries taking a moment like that. If you haven't done it recently and are getting bogged down with life - do it. If you have no garden, go to a park on your own and watch squirrels running up the trees. And worker ants carrying chunks of leaves to their nest. It's incredible. Take in the beauty of nature.
Take a moment to look at how beautiful the sky looks. How fresh the morning air smells - you can nearly taste it.
I feel so lucky to be alive. I don't think I'm going to stop grinning today. Uber people, whoever you all are.... I love you all you lovely, weird internet people.
Oh and here's a photo of the view I just got from my garden. Yes it's a mess but it looks a damn sight better than it did when we moved in three months ago. Bindweed city.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word
Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God's recreation of the new day
Its perfect for me. When I saw the size of the back of it (not seen in photo) and the two greenhouses and all the weeds I saw a project. And it WILL get there. No point in getting a garden thats already been done - I want to personalise it!
I don't really 'dig' nature, but i had a happy moment like that a couple of weeks ago at the league game - sitting on the grass with my mates, drinking beer - it was one of those 'i'm really glad to be here' moments.
The thing is, the story I'm writing refuses to condense and I don't have the time or inspiration to write a new one. Help.
Seriously, anybody out there interested in being emailed my story so far to give me feedback?
By which I mean I'm just saying something outlandish and stupid so people will read it and go "Ha ha ha, what a silly chap that Orgasmafellow is. ISN'T HE A CARD, GLADYS???" and maybe they'll like me give me hits and positive ratings and hopefully grow to know me as an ideal and start to make assumptions about my likes and dislikes and think they know me as a person and then perhaps email me privately requesting locks of my hair and/or bags of cinnamon measured out at my home kitchen while I'm in the nude and they'll smell the cinammon or stroke the locks or hair and imagine me in violet and laurel wreaths standing in an open field at sunset and they will love me and send me money, lots of money in non-sequential, unmarked $20s and $10s, or maybe a secure wire transfer of some sort it doesn't matter or hell at the very least some Fruit Roll Ups.
Such a pretty green! I miss the rain. I'm in Los Angeles, and at 11 AM, it's over 100 degrees F! And oppressively humid. I imagine if I walked outside right now, I would explode like in "Total Recall".
Not that it isn't a beautiful morning. I notice that the reptiles are getting bigger.
Two years and counting... when the flowers die the first time you have to cut it right back and it will grow more the following year..
Then, I'll probably jack off to some internet pron while Mrs. Shlongy toils away at work.
Although I was born (1970) before Teaser and the Firecat came out (1971) my father will call and leave that song as a message on my answering machine on my birthday.
I love Cat Stevens' music. I thought it was too bad when he converted to Islam and pretty much stopped being Cat Stevens. I recently saw some interview with him where he said he's begun performing some of his music when he was Cat Stevens as well as composing some new music that he claims will appeal to everyone.
I hope so. The man has a beautiful voice.
that's only the first third of the garden you can see. After the magnolia tree are the two greenhouses (bursting with juicy tomatoes, sweet yellow courgettes and hotter than hot chillies amongst other things). Then there is a huge back section which we are going make a secret garden; deck and cover with a trellis roof interwoven with vines and have an archway entrance out of laods of ivy.
Glad you're smiling to :D
Just the other night, I was sitting outside my apt with a few friends as the evening was beginning to cool off. We were just having a few casual beers and light-heartly arguing about muisc. It occurred to me there with the sunset, how really happy I am with my current station in life. No, it's not AWESOME, but I'm pretty fuckin' content with it. I kissed The Girl on the forehead, finished my beer, and threw myself into the discussion of WHY Zepplin was more influencial than Sabbath...
Just remember that when you lay your new turf, you should alternate the direction you cut it everytime. Example: If you mow in a north to south direction one week, then next should be east to west. This will help with root strength and stop divets and rows forming in your soil which can let water run to in which it will lie and allow weeds to grow. Also you should not have straight edges as this is bad for root grow. Slight curves are best.
Well its covered in weeds so we're currently (slowly) killing all the weeds which will take about 2 months. Then we dig it all up and lay new turf probably by spring. It'll be worth it in the end..
