i remember those ugly slipper things. back in the day before i'd realized my bike had brakes, i used to drag my toes on the ground to stop myself. my parents hated that because i'd go through a pair of shoes every couple of weeks, so i owned many, many pairs of those shitty loafers between the ages of 4 and 8.

that's also about the age i discovered beer. i thought it was pop. or soda, if you're a hick.

Yes. Rockford Files may have been more 70's, not sure but I do remember watching them as reruns.

I have a picture of me out fishing with my dad in a full-on day-glo outfit, complete with Aqua-netted teased bangs. I had a pair of red jellies, which make your feet sweat like none other. I remember when slap braclets were banned b/c of the fear of children dying of MAKE BELIEVE INFECTIONS when the cheesy fabric would come off and inflict IMAGINARY CUTS. I loved Scott Baio, Kirk Cameron, and Doogie Houser. I am sad Doogie is da homosexuals :'(

"This is the story of one of America's great unsung heroes. I mean you've seen him but you never knew who he was. You've cheered for him and cried for him and women have wanted to die for him. But did he ever get any credit or the girl? No! He's what we call the "Stuntman" and the reason I'm talking so fondly about him is, well because it's me, Colt Seaver. Anyway, picture work isn't wall-to-wall employment so maybe you wonder how a guy keeps his head together? Well, one way is to wait by the phone and wait and wait. The other is to take an occasional job with the court system of the United States of America where a man is considered innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately sometimes a lot of these people get out of jail on what we call bail and they'd run like hell! ...and that's where I come in. I sometimes pick up rent money trying to find them and bring them back to justice."

-Colt Seavers

HAHA- FG I just returned from a trip down memory lane and you just left this.

When I was 5 or 6 maybe? my mom told me she had a surprise for me, and to look in my room. I walked in, and on the back of my door, was a giant poster of Shaun Cassidy, in all his jean and satin-jacketed splendor. I was too young to be discerning, really..I loved those cheesy guys. It was the first little girl hearthrob type thing I remember having. That was before I graduated to Erik Estrada, Rick Springfield, and later Michael Jackson and the brat pack. Good times, good times.

Saccy-remember Sean Cassidy, Leif Garret, and that other Gibb brother that was solo?

You might have been too young since they were big in the late 70s.

Where the hell is Loki when you need her? Besides Merlina, Loki is the only other Uber lady here who is past 35.

Anyway, if you were a typical pre-pubie girl in the late 70's, you had to love one or all of those guys. If you were a true fan, you wore the satin pastel Sean Cassidy jacket with his picture screen printed on the back.

Fortunately I wasn't typical. Those guys were nothing but cheese.

With feathered hair.

She's actually a very talented Flamenco guitarist. Part of her schtick was she would wiggle all over (thus making her boobs bounce), dance, and say "Coochie Coochie!"

I've seen those black bottoms too over here on 2 and 1,5 ltr bottles. The thin plastic needed some support in order to be put on a shelve, I guess.

Who is Charo? I wasn't that young in the 80's but that name doesn't ring a bell.

Memory lane.

All of the apt complex is full of student for the year now. A bunch of us were drinking on the porches the other night, getting to know each other. One of the young women happened to be talking about going to one of the local clubs and dancing to a "Classic Rock Song." I asked her what song. This 19 year old told me: "Pour Some Sugar On Me" by Def Leppard.

...

I own the Hysteria album on cassette when it came out back in the 80's.

I just stared at the girl and drank my beer...
----------

I forgot to add the CD and Tape anti-theft devices to the collage. I remember my sister shoplifted 3 tapes..Posion "Flesh & Blood", A Bon Jovi one and Def Leppard "Hysteria" and we sat in the car trying to remove the plastic anti-theft devices by burning through them with the cherry of our cigarettes.

FG- Yeah, we called them jellybeans at first, I don't know if it's because we were kids and made stuff up, or if it was shortened. Soon, they were just jellies. But I do know that if there's one thing that doesn't make for healthy, comfortable shoes, it's PVC.

FMP- I see the black ones, but don't forget the pastel/neon/sparkly jelly bracelets that matched our shoes so perfectly. I have a bunch right here.

Speaking of retro, I think I'm going to take a drive to the old neighborhood today. If I had a dollar for every old camaro I used to see on that street..

Sac-the shoes were called Jellies back then I think.

I had forgotten the black bottoms on 2 liters. What was that all about? Did it serve a purpose?

Want to hear something sad? The Man was watching VH1 yesterday and some retrospective called I Love the 70's came on. That episode dealt with 1978.
I remembered most everything they were talking about and I remember the songs when they were new.

They talked about Charo though. I remember that when she did her 'Coochie Coochie' and bouncing her boobs around just about caused my Dad to have a heart attack.

-----------

No idea on the black bottoms. Maybe so they would sit flat.

My grandfather was more of a Dolly Parton fan than a Charo.

I bought a bunch of retro 80s stuff for a 30th birthday gift recently. A new pair of jellybean shoes in that vintage design (not the new knockoffs) are hard to find and were going for something like $30-$40. We paid under $5 for them back in the day. I don't recall associating them with Madonna, but the timing was close.
