Nicely done, although all is fair in this competition so I would have liked to heard it recorded. Rated accordingly.
---------------------
Perhaps then, after the round is over...I've got a few tracks left to do that are annoying the piss out of me.
I was having trouble with the lead and vocal percussion tracks, so I called up my buddy Ross in Toronto and had him take a stab at recording 'em...his results were much better, as you'll hear. He's quite the amazing tenor, and since his natural voice is higher in timbre than mine, it lended itself well to lead on this tune.
Sometimes being a good musician means knowing when it's best to stick to backing parts and to let someone else drive the car.
This was a fun work for me, not just in the writing and recording, but also the editing and mixdown. It's got a fairly heavy "processed" sound to it, which is not my ordinary preference, but I was trying to stretch myself and go for a "top 40 pop" aural feel - I think it turned out okay, all things considered, and I was pleasantly surprised how quickly it came together. Guess all of those hours spent working on "Show of Hands" paid off.
Anyhow, enjoy this Friday offering...

I agree with lungfish in that this had an 80's vibe to it. It put me in mind of 80's ska oddly enough.
I wasn't crazy about this the first time I listened to it. But it has grown on me a little.

That was very good, but VERY 80s-ish. Is that what you're going for?

Yup. :)

I like to think I can rate objectively, however.

Hahaha. What a joke. I did so here, though.

That was very good, but VERY 80s-ish. Is that what you're going for? If so, that's fine, but I was there...and it was a disaster, musicwise.
Tight musicianship, good singing, decent melody and arrangement and all that. Just not my style really. But very very good, methinks.
Today, I listened to the Allman Brothers and James Gang and got to thinking, "Did it ever get any better than this?"
James Gang is hit-or-miss, by the way.
All in all, great, but not my thing. I like to think I can rate objectively, however.

When I read this initially I imagined a Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson Merle Haggard C&W dirge o' death.
This was cool though, very Ben Folds.

Wow, this would have absolutely obliterated your competition but you advanced anyway. Awesome. I'm glad to see that you put it on track.

I'd live to hear something more guitar/fuzz/Marshall stack driven and twice as fast.

Oh, I've got some hard stuff in the works, too. I'm a huge classic rock buff, so the time will come.

+2 for the effort...But I don't have a lot of nice comments for the song or genre itself so I'll just keep those comments to myself.
For a change.
I'd live to hear something more guitar/fuzz/Marshall stack driven and twice as fast.

Great stuff Captn.
I'm jealous of people that can do music - I could never get into it, as much as I love to listen.

i am not a huge fan of that track, but your talent and ability to create such a thing is worth a meaningless rating on a website.
well...it's worth a lot more than that, but it's all you're gonna get out of me for it.

Just fucking awesome!
But the music makes me flashback Robert Palmers "looking for clues".
Not bad for a retiree.

His voice is comparable to Ben Folds.
The song is pretty damned cool. It's bouncy and still clever.
Does your friend want a groupie? I have references.
