'It's for you own good.'
Those words still keep me awake at nights; I can still hear the perfect tone of my mother's voice as she said them to us, I try to ignore the later screams.
Do you think it's odd that sometimes when you think of a person's voice you can actually convince yourself that you are hearing it? I do that a lot, but then I don't get to hear voices these days. Thinking about it I don't think I have heard a voice, other than mine, for about 2 years.
When was the last time I heard another voice?

"You have to go Michael"
"But what about you?"
"I will be fine, just go. I will catch you up later I promise."
"Jenny I'm scared."
"It will be okay Michael. Now please go home. I will see you there later. It will take me a while though, but you go now. Run Michael, run Home NOW!"

Apart from her scream a few moments later I haven't heard another voice since. Do you count a scream as hearing a voice? I don't think I will; as I like to think that the last time I heard her voice it was words and not some terrible noise that ripped my heart in two.
You probably guessed, well you have probably been through the same thing with loved ones anyway, that she never did come home.
I cried a lot, and for a bloody long time; you don't mind me swearing do you? Just my Dad did it a few times and always told me not too until I was older, I'm thinking that I'm old enough now.
I cried on and off for about 2 months, but crying doesn't help feed a hungry tummy these days.
I still cry though.
But I won't cry today, I have decided that.

As the last male on Earth took his final breaths the world made no sound. Those who had come and destroyed, in order to rebuild, felt the loss and actually mourned it. It was a necessary death.
No more remained and so life anew could begin.

5 Years previously.
"The motion is carried. Preparations will be made for the world to be exterminated. I thank you all for your time. I feel we have moved forward in the right direction today."
Figures moved about the room. Some bowed before disappearing some walked through door ways and departed in other manners. One figure remained silently until all others had left. When all had gone it started speaking.
"Is this truly to happen then Lord?"
"Yes it is."
"All of them?"
"Yes."
"Is there no way that we could incorporate them into the union?"
"We have reviewed them extensively and you know that could not happen. They would not deem it worthy for them to merely become 'part' of us. They would seek to lead and rule. It would cause conflict that I feel would separate all of us. This is the only possible solution."
"I have reviewed it Lord but feel that we make ourselves like them by carrying out this course of action."
"We are nothing like them. We are doing this to save us all."
"I understand Lord; forgive me I wished only to set my mind at ease."
"I understand Geradiah it is unlike us to carry out this course of action. Just remember that we do this so that we might live, I need not remind you why."
The figure bowed before its Lord and departed.

Michael opened his eyes and tried to focus. A figure moved before him but he was unable to focus on it properly. He felt pressure in his brain and heard the first voice for 2 years.
"Do not fear me. I am what you would call a friend. You are close to death and that is how I need to keep you for the time being, but understand that I do it in order to help you. If you listen to what I have to say and learn from me you will be safe and will live.
You are not alone we have others but cannot release you yet. We believe in another way than the course chosen.
My name is Geradiah and I do this so that you might live."
and so the End began

I was gonna hold off on rating this until after the voting ended, but since you did me...
This is a really cool concept. The grammar and punctuation needs to be cleaned up, but it's not horrendous enough in my book to dock you points. I hope to see you continue this story.
