no, you arent a genuine writer unless you are or have been paid to do it. its also unfortuante but sadly true that it is publishing houses that make writers. and no, its not comparable to anything painters do, theyre utterly different art forms.
writing some posts (however 'good' they may be) on a website for the enjoyment of maybe 30 people no more makes you a 'writer' than jumping into a cab makes you a race car driver.
same goes for self-publishing, im afraid. ive known a few people who self published. theyre all bad uni lecturers telling people who think jk rowling is an artist how to be 'writers'. theyre also at writing conventions forming cliques and supporting each others mediocrity through mutual praise.
gotta watch out for that glass house. somehow that scenario has a familiar ring to it. dunno why...
there is no art here. there are people fucking around, at best working on their skills. its what ive done, and what i see a lot of other people doing, yourself included. im not really sure what you mean by stagger back and forth about my discussion about 'art'. you didnt really clarify, just let it trail off meaningfully. if youd like to explain your point im sure i can clarify to you my possibly complex notions of 'art'.
thankyou for your well-wishes on my future career. currently im working on a smallish project, creating the world for an online computer game. a bit lame, but its a start. maybe in another 20 years or so ill have enough experience to write a decent novel. again, i wish you the best of luck woth yours. its a shitfight getting published, and more often than not, its a case of who you know, not what, but you appear to have the desire and thats pretty much everything, as the stories always come, eventually.

What does THAT mean? You're not a "genuine" writer unless you're getting paid by a publishing house for your craft? That's like saying you're not a genuine artist unless you have a BFA. (I'm pretty sure that a lot of great creators didn't finish college.) But I guess you are supposedly DOING IT FOR REAL. I'm not entirely sure what that means, but I suppose that implies you've made choices and taken steps that either 1) I wasn't able to, or 2) I would never consider doing.
So congratulation with your "real writing." I hope your happy with it...

why would you be proud of that?
i mean, ive written some very good stories here also, but it means absolutely nothing.
just like, unfortunately, self-publishing means nothing. not to put you down, because youre doing what you want to do, and while im not a fan of your choice of genre (i think horror is silly), i respect what youre doing. it is however unfortunate that publishers make writers. its not fair, but thats how it is.
but as far as the site is concerned, there arent any genuine writers here, because if they are, they go and do it for real. (like i suspect jared has)
but whatever, its just a website, and none of this really matters.
good luck with your writing, i hope you sell a billion books.

I really appreciate these compilation posts from time to time. They remind me that for every shitpost I complain about, there's another good post I haven't read yet (though I'm proud to say in this case, I've read quite a bit of them). Since it's ubercentric, I'd wait on rating until after the comp if I thought it would make the difference, but I don't think it will so imma +2 the hell out of it now. And truly- the thought that someone with your talent appreciates even one thing I've written is flattering as hell. Also, your use of title is kicker of all ass.
