This is always a good topic, your presentation was just a bit dry.
You need to sex things up a bit. See example: http://www.ubersite.com/m/99044
Still, you entertained me. Well done.

Not to stir the pot, but I'd like to offer an opportunity for Father O'Mealy to display his vast knowledge. I've never been too very impressed with people who shout the benefit of *some aspect of their being or persona* but offer no concrete proof of that benefit. I mean, I know Philosophy is a very competitive field - that's why so few people with Philosophy degrees actually become Philosophers. But if a Philosophy degree enables one to think far and beyaond the rest of us, I'd like to see an example of it. I'm an engineer and a hypothesis has been placed before me. I'd like to test it.
Jamoathwilly, will you do up a treatise, in your best Philosophy voice, on any subject you decide to be worth expounding upon (the subject of this post excites you, apparently, perhaps it will do), that I might understand how advanced your thinking really is? Won't you make a new post, using all your skills, and enlighten me? You have here the chance to make your professors Majikthise and Vroomfondel very proud.
Thanks in advance, Skrapmetal

Umm, I hate to be a nitpicker but with your English degree you seemed to have a run on sentence right here: "now, i could go further in depth with waffling on about russian formalism and prague school criticsm and a whole bunch of other things that sound every bit as impressive as whatever jargon you thought made you sound all book-learned, but instead ill jsut say that youre a moron who posts pictures of himself with a sock on his diminutive genitals on the internet, and obsesses enough over a website to create alter after alter after alter, because it appears you have so little social life and such an inability to form real-world social bonds that you have to come and pester people on the internet all day long." Oh, and you didn't use proper capitalization. Oh, and I think you meant 'just' instead of 'jsut' and you missed punctuation in 'you're.' Even with all this, you are 10 times smarter than Oath.

Listen cunt.
Philosophy doesn't just have you spit out what other people have said. Quite the contrary. The kind of thought required to evaluate complex arguments about abstract concepts is far and above any kind of pontification you've ever endeavored.
English? Are you serious? Reading Keats isn't my idea of pushing my cognitive limits.
Writing 30 page term papers on the validity of teleological governance however, is.
Fuck you for even questioning my intellect, worm. I could bash you in absolutely any competition of wits.
Drunk.
And stoned.
And whilst praying to some ill-conceived god of some obscure religion.
---
wow. 30 whole pages. congrats, big man. no - seriously thats almost 10000 words. which i assume youve done once, so now youll make out like its standard. i mean if you want to have a pissing contest, i jsut finished a presentation for work (see, i get to make use of my useless degree, unlike you) that was around 70 pages, about 25000 words. it took me about a month to write. did i piss further than you?
now, as far as your 'intellect'. with my experience of philosophy (which was only a couple units) your term paper on whatever it was (big words are so impressive, i know they get me laid all the damn time), essentially had you reading the opinions of others and deciding which was best - which is basically what 'evaluating' means. which is fine, jsut dont go thinking that it qualifies you for mensa.
i would suggest that english is a more challenging path than you seem to understand, as i dont jsut sit around reading keats, i have to try and come to grips with whats being said by the man, how hes saying it and explain why he is saying one thing and not something else. now, i could go further in depth with waffling on about russian formalism and prague school criticsm and a whole bunch of other things that sound every bit as impressive as whatever jargon you thought made you sound all book-learned, but instead ill jsut say that youre a moron who posts pictures of himself with a sock on his diminutive genitals on the internet, and obsesses enough over a website to create alter after alter after alter, because it appears you have so little social life and such an inability to form real-world social bonds that you have to come and pester people on the internet all day long.
not only that you have to try and tell people youre smarter than them because youre obviously so insecure about your wit or lack thereof that you actually stooped that saying you 'could bash (me) in absolutely any competition of wits'.
i bet your dads way better than mine too.
now, do i have to smoke you any further down, or would you like me to trash you a little more?
if you like, you can let off some steam with some more retaliatory -2's on my posts. i dont mind.

That's funny.
Also, the Q'ran is supposedly The Words of Allah (in the first person) but that gives it no more weight than the the Bible has (to me). It's still based on an outdated set of values that are more a hindrance than a benefit in this modern time.

i know iddqd catches a lot of flak around here, but i think he offers something to this site that a lot of people don't. a bit of honesty and at least an attempt at some objectivity. plus he's made me both laugh and think at different times. those are both worth an awful lot.
i'd buy him a beer any day. i'd probably slap him in the back of the head once for picking on rob, as i like that guy's cheery good heartedness an awful lot, but only once.

why bother?
a rational argument directed at a section of thought whose basis is faith - a concept totally incompatible with logic. well i take back the 'why bother' comment. there are some points here that are infinitely interesting to people of whatever metaphysical persuasion, and your explanation of 'theory' was succinct.
however, toward the end you should not have kept typing. dont discuss god, point out (as you did very well) the misunderstandings and misrepresentations of evolutionary theory.
anyway, youll get a billion hits as some godbothering moron who cant understand your mild points will fly off the fucking handle. however, your later arguments are jsut as weak - dont talk about the bible it is as you point out open to interpretation, and in making mention of it you merely invite yourself into endless cyclical meaningless debate about pedantics. stick to what you know, which is clearly at the very least the basics of evolutionary theory.

The negligence and slop of this post are uncharacteristic of your work, DeadToast.
Nowhere in here did you directly rebut fundamentalism.
Nowhere in here did you quote scientific fact in contradiction to religious postulation.
Your statement of Atheism supporting evolution is 100% untrue.
...not to mention the myriad of typos that made this pretty painful.
