The day is bright with the promise of crisp, chilly Fall. It's the sort of day that seems to demand that sweaters be worn and long walks be taken through leaf-scudded streets. There is something particularly vibrant about Nature's last gasp before the icy grip of Winter stifles all but the hardiest of flora.

In case you hadn't noticed, Autumn is my favorite season.

I can't wait for Halloween. Perhaps it's because my birthday is so close to it, but that holiday has always been more special to me than just about any other day.

Right now, I'm thinking about small children dressing up in colorful costumes and shrieking with unconstrained delight as they imagine the mounds of sweet loot yet to be gathered. I'm also thinking about how much I miss parts of being a child.

I think that I'd be a good father, but how does anyone really know? Sometimes, when I'm looking out of my second-story window at the rural country-side that I presently call my home, I imagine what I'd teach my imaginary child. I like to think that I'd be able to instill all the values that I mostly taught myself; how to be honorable and strong, to understand the difference between benevolence and malice, to know when to listen to the head instead of the heart.

I spend most of my time alone in my head, so there's lots and lots of opportunity for introspection; some might say too much. I guess that's why I love Fall so much. People seem loathe to break that instinctive stillness that seeps into every aspect of days like this.

My favorite times to be awake are when it's either very early in the morning or very late at night. I do so enjoy that eerie feeling of wandering around usually crowded places when no one is about. A part of me relishes the faint notion that I am trespassing.

Right now, I'm sitting on a small hill in the middle of a pasture lush with winter grass, listening to the wind playfully ruffle at my clothes. The only conscious thought I have is a paradoxical one: Wouldn't it be nice to share this feeling of still solitude with someone?

Is there a difference between being alone and being lonely?

Thank you, Captain Fucking Obvious

What the world needs is more people going around underling what we say by saying it again. You want to be the mutant head that lives on my shoulder like Men in Black II? I'll say something, and then you can say "Yeah!"

Is there is a difference between being alone and being lonely?

Ever have a moment, you're sitting up in bed at 4AM, your girl is lying next to you sound alseep, she barely spoke a word to you all night, tears welling up in your eyes as you realize that this person cares about you as much as she might care that tomorrow is another day.

Try being with someone and feeling lonely.... trust me, it's much better to just be alone.

You may or may not know that a Jabberwokys best friend is namely the squirrel, they start mating when they are a year old! It takes about six weeks from the time the squirrels mate until the baby squirrels, called kittens, are born.

Twice a year, in the spring and at the end of the summer, the female squirrel has two to five kittens

Now tell me you dont feel fuzzy inside :)

Sounds very universal, maybe you're growing up to be an adult.

One can be lonely without being alone very well, this too is a mind thing.

i think your fundamental reasoning is flawed bro...you don't need a 'thing' you don't have to have a shtick, you don't have to...be...anything but human (and that's debatable to some extent)

i find plenty of solitude within my marriage...the wife either lets me off to do my thing because she understands that its something i require to become unscrambled or she joins in...we've had many a morning on the lake, the two of us...saying nothing just enjoying the earth

i guess its a matter of the right person, maybe you'll find him.

I think you're missing the point here, MW.

1) Being a whiney, emo goth is sort of my thing.
2) While I have been known to inspire scream-filled flight at first sight by your average chica, my solitude springs more from my own personal choice rather than a simple inability to socialize.

my suggestion...stop being a whiney emo goth faggot and women will like you more or at least you will be more approachable and then you can let the real charmer in you show.

I've always wanted chill'un MW, but first I need a) someone who I actually WANT to make a new human being with and b) a somewhat stable lifestyle. There is much that I have yet to do and most of that is not conducive to raising wee ones.

Still, thanks for the thoughts.

while I agree with most of your sentiment here I can't help but feeling that in life...you are a watcher...keeping yourself (or attempting to) from the harsh ups and downs out of fear or some other reasoning.

if you think you want children...fuckin do it bro. my wife asks me all the time, as we are considering a third child...'honey are we sure we want to bring another child into this world with the way things are and will we have enough time to spend with each of them to ensure they learn to be good people' and so on and so forth...you know how women are. I tell her that I like the idea of strength in numbers, the larger my clan the larger the positive force in this world.

its foolish to think that you will have to teach your children everything, they do in fact learn many things on their own...by watching and observing. think about it...did you learn to be strong because everyone around you was strong? I doubt it but rather you witnessed all sides from the weakest of the weak to the strongest of the strong and decided for yourself where you would land.

now i'm rambling...but I reserve the right to so now and in the future and also to add as many...as I like to what I say.

also, i find nothing quite as relaxing as rowing my canoe out across the lake on days like today or climbing inot a tree stand before the sun comes up and riding the emotions that nature inflicts upon me.
