I am not a Drum & Bass fan. I have never been able to get my head around the complex terminology and lingo, also it isn't exactly the most accesable genre to get into. Indeed, it seems likely that many of you will not even have heard of this sort of thing. So in the interests of public awareness I have taken it upon myself to forge a solid path of truth through Vaugerie's dense bush, into Clarity's verdant channel.
This weekend saw me and disrespectable (if indeed that is a word), down at Birmingham's Custard Factory to take in our monthly exposure to northen Drum & Bass DJ's and the large, rapid-speaking, black men that follow them around. It was quite a good evenings fun, much better than last time when they had the valve sound system out ("Louder than my bum!" - Ben) which is capable of rendering an entire neighberhood of post-university refugees entirely deaf for up to a week and thus completely paralysing the local benefits office.
Instead we were treated to intimate fare; DJ's Lynx, Caliber, Marcus Intalex and some other bloke performed in succesion in The Medicine Bar, a small venue with enough people to generate an atmosphere, but enough space to make a tit of ones self without knocking into ones fellow patrons. One of the great attractions of course being the proximity of the DJ and the MC ("If you're close enough to read this then you're close enough to RINSE OUT THA RESERVOIR!" - Doug).
All in all a very good experience all round, the drug dealers charged reasonable prices for their pills and were freely available even though the bouncers did very thorough checks ("Guns, knives & drugs, we don' wan' them in our raves & our clubs" - anonymous rasta). I would, however, caution anyone thinking of visiting to be very careful in choosing which evening to attend, as the line ups for drum and bass evenings at The Custard Factory, as the vast quantities of flyers handed out showed, featured seemingly endless appalling acts of truly risible quality (or at least so I was reliably informed). Much like the prospectors of old, you've got to sift through the filth to find the gold nuggets.

It's gotta be one of the most ridiculous genre names - imagine a subgenre of pop called "Piano and Bongo" or some shit.

I have no idea what you just said and you are missing an apostrophe. I gather that you went to rave, did some drugs, and listened to some faggoty techno drum & bass. All the rest of your little story did fuck all to a) entertain me, b) make me want to read more of your native tongued tripe.

I find this funny - considering your username is that of drum and bass band.
I love drum and bass...and pills.....but mostly I just love cardboard.

sometimes I actually enjoy reading the posts of berty's that I don't understand. until the reviews I only had a small inclination of a guess that bass and drums would bt techno rave stuff.

You said it was the kind of stuff i'd have liked.
From a techno fan do a metal fan, that's quite a tall order.
I'm up for it next time if the conoisseurs will pick out a suitable evening's entertainment. You know what i'll like.

I remember you mentioning this.
You described it as "Pacman."
Dark lights, repetitive techno, eating pills, and if you get the right kind, you might see ghosts.

I'm not about to go out and gary up my car but I have to say I really had a great time and I genuinely did enjoy the music. I've been to a couple of other Drum and Bass nights, including Drop Beats not Bombs, and can say, hand on heart, that there is some good stuff out there that's well worth a look. There's a lot of gash as well but still.
