When you turn, it flickers, and then disappears. That was your past, lived and now gone, but not really. It happens all the time, every time you move, and all the time you sit still. It just happened again.

I walked through a door today, and my past got caught and pulled me back. My head knocked against the glass. I saw my past apologise and jump through as it should have. Or was that my reflection? No it probably wasn't.

I hate it when someone says that their past came back to haunt them. This is a rubbish statement, as your past is always just behind you. It's in the swirl and eddies of air that you leave as you move through the air. It's in the minds and ears of those you talk with. It's following you by a microsecond, an endless stalker that is ever watchful.

Just like me, my past is a bastardly creation.
I spout insults; my past reminds the target of what I said.
I punch and kick my enemies; my past brings the pain.
I kill, maim and punish; my past hangs around to deliver the shock, the sense of injustice, and the cold, hard reality of my actions.

Each of us has a past, and every action of our lives makes it bigger - we're all feeding our pasts every moment of our existence. They're insatiable, ravenous animals, devouring all, yet they're subtle and manipulative as well.

My past shows me as I wish; my past shows you, me as I am.

I leave footprints, my past leaves impressions.

Today, my past overtook me, and the consequences of my actions started to take hold before the actions had been performed. It became quite odd, with an almost surreal quality to it. I killed a man who was already dead, bleeding from the wound I was about to inflict. I was laughing before it happened, which I usually do in the aftermath.

His wife was screaming, begging for her life as she lay broken and lifeless on the floor. My employer had paid me on arrival, and congratulated me again, as I left to do the job he'd already given me. He also knew of my betrayal, and pleaded with me to reconsider, but as you may have already guessed, it was too early, and therefore too late.

I could see the end of it all, the rapid chase, the hunt that would eventually leave me cornered and trapped. But something inside me, or maybe it was my past again, forced me to see it through. How can you change your past, even if it is yet to happen?

I knew my killer when I met him, although he did not yet know me, as his past was in the right place, a follower, not the leader as mine was. I took action based on what my past had presciently informed me of, and as he died, I broke time.

We live together now, my past and I. Time no longer separates us. There is no gap, not even the microsecond that used to keep us apart.

I think, and my thoughts are implemented.
I do, and the consequence happens.
I remain, and I die, it's all the same now.

My past caught up with me in the restroom, I regret the melted cheesey goodness that turned so foul before my mind had the chance to say "Lactose Intolerant."

Sorry... your post was well done.

ignorant and bigoted.

I was just offended by that particular piece of yours, not by you personally. I probably overreacted.
