Stumbled across this Documentry the other day and thought it was funny and worth watching.
The documentry is a look into how extreme PC values have changed universities from places where people can exchange ideas and where many view points are accepted to centers of group think. To places where strict limits on language and speech are imposed under the banner of "sensetivity" if the universities don't agree with the message.
It covers the case of a student who had to sue not to go to invasive counseling just because he wrote a review of the "vagina" monologue and used similiar language that was used in the "play."

The scene starts out in columbia and asks a multiple choice quiz to students. Who said, "the way they talk, walk, the way they greet each other, there is a vulgarity of character that is bone-deep and structural to the skeletal vertebrae of its culture," about Israeli Jews. Adolph Hitler, Osama Bin Laden, or a tenured Columbia Professor? I am sure you can guess what the answer is.

I think university should be a place where people exchange ideas and are exposed to new experiences.

Man I wish I hadn't read this.

Universities have always been that way. Seriously, they've been that way for hundreds of years. That is why there's that whole "new guy getting ridiculed for his genius idea as he runs around the halls of learning trying to get his theory listened to" cliche. It is very much par for the course and it's right that it is that way.

Universities have never been so politically charged while claiming freedom of ideas.
There is a very clear and very real double standard when it come to what is and isnt acceptable behavior and speech.

Universities have always been that way. Seriously, they've been that way for hundreds of years. It's a lot like how the vagina is a difficult environment for sperm to get by in so as to weed out the defective ones.

I think Horowitz wrote a book on this a little while ago. I think whoever made this documentary read the book and then cashed in.

I don't know if it is cash in (as the movie probably won't make too much) as much as try to popularize. I think a lot more people would watch a movie that humorously pointed out hypocrisy in universities than would read a book about it.
