Hey all,
First post etc.. so is there some kind of ritual for me to do?
Anyhow, I just wanted to discredit some ideas that were being kept alive by my bosses at work and by others I'm sure that Germany and Germans are racists and not friendly people. I live in Canada and am just visiting outside of a small town called Königstein near frankfurt, since I'm leaving here soon and continuing on to Marburg and some other cities I felt I may as well post this and there might be some replies to it when I next have a chance to get on here.
World War two happened, this is true, lots of bad things happened, genocide being only one of them, but the German people are not bad people. I have not been frowned at once here often my terrible attempts at the language are simply shrugged off. Yeah, that's all I have time for so I'll probably not be on here for another week or so.
Auf Wiedersehn!

You sound pretty dense and biased - racist in fact.
I was schooled in Germany and they are OK, but I wouldn't live there for world peace. Germans are nice enough, but I don't gel with their culture and way of life - that's me, not them.
But thinking that they are all racist and actually admitting being surprised that Germans aren't all rottweiler wielding fascists shows *YOUR* bias, racism and naivte.
I am glad your travels are teaching you stuff - it's the best thing. I hope you can teach your fellow Canadians some anti-anti-German feeling, after all you had to learn it somewhere.

I have been to deutschland 2 times and you are correct, they are kind enough people. Some buildings in Hamburg have been left in their bombed out state as reminders to the German people of Nazi atrocities (sp?)

Well, get used to shit-treatment. My canuck pals got the 'muttering "American pigs" under your breath' from shopkeeps in '91. It doesn't make you special.

how the hell are there so many military people on this website? How did everyone hear about it? Anyway, I didnt know world war two happened, nor did I have any idea that bad things including genocide occured. My second grade teacher must have been slacking off again. Holy shit, I learned something new for the day...

I think you should try living in Germany before you start running your mouth. Visiting for a couple damn days doesnt count. My husband is in the military and we're stationed here in Germany. Alot of germans dont care for americans but there are a few that are quite nice. They hold anti-american demonstrations almost every weekend and if your lucky you wont get harrassed when walking down the street. They mostly hate bush but take it out on every american they come across. So far while living here germans have tried to run us off the road while driving a few times, we've been appoached numerous times by germans who are making obscene hand gestures while screaming bushes name and we've just plain been harrassed while walking down the street.
